As the Head of Private Asset Valuation, you will play a pivotal role in leading and overseeing the valuation process for private asset investments within Vanguard. Responsibilities include managing day-to-day team operations, developing and reviewing valuation models, onboarding new portfolio investments, overseeing and strengthening relationships with third-party valuation firms, and presenting clear, data-driven valuation results to key stakeholders. As a leader in this emerging area, you will help build and scale the team, services, processes, and capabilities that will define Vanguard's future in private-asset valuation.
Responsibilities:
- Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Leads the private asset valuation process across global product lineup. Serves as the key decision maker for private asset valuation process in determining policies, global operating models, and the control environment.
- Manage the creation and development of presentation materials to effectively deliver valuation results to various internal committees, external auditors, and Board of Directors.
- Conducts management/operations meetings with appropriate external parties and may require on-site meetings at external vendors or in other Vanguard operational sites. Coordinates input, ongoing communication and management of key initiatives with external vendors and other Vanguard business units.
- Measures team's progress and evaluates success in meeting departmental objectives. Ensures operational efficiency and effectiveness within the team. Sets measurable goals and examines ways to raise standards, to increase quality and to improve overall team performance.
- Leverages broad valuation knowledge and subject matter expertise to contribute to the development of other crew members. Serves as a resource to the department, global team, and cross divisional teams and willingly shares expertise.
- Promotes relationship management and proactively fosters effective communication. Anticipates clients' needs and ensures client satisfaction related to the services being provided. Builds and develops strong relationships with both internal stakeholders and external parties as needed.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in valuations, transaction services, a private equity fund, consulting, or other relevant analytical roles
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or similar discipline
- CFA, CPA, or other professional financial designation preferred.
- Thorough understanding of ASC 820 and corresponding valuation guidance. Familiarity with a wide range of valuation approaches (e.g. Income, Market, Yield Analysis, OPM, Contingent Claims, PWERM etc.)
- Experience managing and building a team is strongly preferred.
