On the Crew Compliance Technology team, we create and maintain systems that help over 20,000 Vanguard Crew members complete their compliance obligations. We are AWS experts! Nearly 50% of the Crew members in our department have at least one AWS certification, with many having multiple. We use Claude Code to assist back-end development with Node.js and Python as well as our front-end development with Angular.
With our modernization efforts largely behind us, this role offers the opportunity to shape the next phase of technical direction, delivery maturity, and team growth. And you’ll do it while driving meaningful new development and system implementations.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead technical design and development efforts, making decisions and setting the standards for both custom developed applications as well as supporting vendor application data flow.

• Mentor and develop team members to ensure the entire team is using modern, efficient and secure programming methods.

• Work with the team to take ownership of system issues and strive for continuous improvement. Identify opportunities to strengthen performance, simplify workflows, and improve resiliency.

• Partner with product owners, architects, and engineering teams to clarify requirements, assess change impacts, and communicate technical considerations effectively.

• Build in small, usable increments that get into clients’ hands fast so we can learn what works and adapt quickly.

• Review and contribute to technical documentation, including data‑flow designs, and system standards.

• Ensure all solutions and deliverables comply with Vanguard’s technology, security, and data protection requirements.

• Lead the team by developing a deep, real-world understanding of the people who rely on our systems, through sit withs, hands-on observations, and close partnership. Use those insights to help us build the next chapter of this team: solving the problems that matter most, exploring what’s possible, and delivering technology that truly supports Vanguard and our clients.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong Proficiency in Python, SQL and the use of AWS Services.

• Experience with API-first integrations, CI/CD and automated testing.

• Demonstrated track record as a team Tech Lead with experience mentoring team members, guiding technical direction, and making architectural decisions in complex environments.

• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, conduct root cause analysis and optimize system performance.

• Hands-on experience with Agile, Confluence, JIRA, git, Github Enterprise.

• Minimum of eight years related work experience, with at least five years of hands-on development experience.

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.

• Experience with Angular and Node.js

• AWS Certifications: AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate), AWS Certified AI Practitioner.
