Our Ads Applied Research team plays a crucial role in shaping the future of Unity’s monetization products through cutting-edge machine learning and optimization strategies.

We are seeking a Director, Machine Learning to help define and implement the next generation of ML systems for Unity. In this senior role, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of machine learning models that power our ad network, marketplace, and audience targeting tools. You’ll also play a key role in building and shaping our overall ML strategy, collaborating closely with product, engineering, and research teams in China.

What you'll be doing

• Collaborate with Executive Leadership to conceptualize, strategize, and develop new products centered around AI/ML
• Lead the team to advance the state-of-the-art of machine learning to improve our core product offerings in China
• Support the team in building and operating revenue-generating machine learning services and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external partners (e.g. game studios) to evangelize and position AI/ML products and services
• Drive the technical direction of ML initiatives—identifying key opportunities, defining roadmaps, and mentoring team members across disciplines.
• Partner cross-functionally with data science, product, and engineering teams to align ML capabilities with strategic business goals.

What we're looking for

• Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven track record of delivering impactful ML solutions in production, particularly in large-scale, high-throughput systems (e.g., ad tech, recommendation systems, marketplaces).
• Deep expertise in machine learning frameworks and tools (e.g., Py Torch, Tensor Flow, etc.) and a strong understanding of modern model architectures.
• Experience leading ML initiatives and managing the engineers, researchers and product management teams.
• Familiarity with data pipelines, model ops, and cloud ML deployment
