Where we work
Udemy is a global company headquartered in San Francisco, with additional U.S. offices in Denver and Austin, and international hubs in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, and Türkiye. This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

About this role
Udemy is searching for a Senior Software Engineer who embodies our values of authenticity, continuous learning, experimentation, being results-oriented, and being individually humble, yet collectively proud. We expect you to be comfortable with a combination of frontend and backend technologies. Our ideal candidate will be comfortable addressing complex problems, including navigating projects with ambiguous parameters.
You will be joining our Enterprise Portfolio team to build high-impact, customer-facing features that support 17.000 Udemy Business customers with millions of learners and instructors worldwide. You’ll help give companies the tools they need to understand, support, and grow the workforce for the future by driving admin engagement to ensure that the Udemy Business platform is rolled out properly and learning aligns with the goals of the admins in the company. You’ll also deepen your expertise by collecting learner activities, connecting those to the intended learning goals as set by the company admins and help our Enterprise customers to intuitively measure their own business outcome from their investment to their learners.

What you’ll be doing

Writing code using your skills in Kotlin/Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis/Elasticache, GraphQL, Kubernetes and user interfaces in ReactJS, Typescript, MobX or closely related technologies to meet your team's objectives.

Deploying, monitoring and maintaining a set of critical services in our infrastructure using Datadog and FireHydrant Signals.

Building user experiences that adhere to a high level of accessibility standards.

Applying analytical problem solving, cross-functional communication, and systems thinking to ensure smooth execution of product features.

Optimizing code and processes to help your team achieve their goals.

Leading, coordinating, executing, and delivering projects at scale.

Managing complexity within your team while concurrently interacting with teams in adjacent domains.

Work closely with product, design and other team partners to ensure our implementations meet business outcomes

Mentoring and teaching engineers junior to you
What you’ll have
-
Have a BS/MS in CS or equivalent discipline; or equivalent alternative degree or work experience.

5+ years of professional software development experience

Technical competence in some of the following technologies or similar, Kotlin/Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, SQL, GraphQL, Kubernetes.

Practitioner in some of the following technologies or similar, ReactJS, Typescript, frontend state management, HTML, CSS.

Solid understanding of domain-driven design, event-driven development and monolith decomposition patterns.

Analytical problem solving, cross-functional communication, and systems thinking skills.

Ability to break moderately complex problems and projects to deliverable milestones.
