About the Role

We're looking for an exceptional lawyer to join our Employment Legal team to support our growing businesses across Japan & Korea.
This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to join a global legal team integral to a company engaged in cutting edge technology and focused on solving some of the biggest challenges in the world - including changing the way regulators, courts and legislators think about the future of work. This role will be based in either Japan or Singapore.

Your Impact in Role

  • Supporting the Japan and Korea business on employment legal matters.
  • Liaising with the policy team on reforms and other government relations initiatives.
  • Handle and advise on litigation disputes and employment litigation involving both employees and drivers/delivery partners.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in tax, regulatory legal, product developers and policy and communications team to pre-empt employment law risks related to Uber's business, and proactively find solutions to those issues.
  • Advise Uber's HR team on the full range of employment matters relating to recruiting, hiring, training, performance management, compensation, benefits, and terminations.
  • Partner closely with HR and internal audit on a variety of projects, initiatives, investigations and risk management.

What You Will Bring

  • Commercial and practically minded.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Confidence in operating in a fast-paced environment.
  • Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of the matter, and articulate plans to address them.
  • Collaborative approach with both business and legal groups, with a strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility and partner with others.
  • Passionate about your work and a desire to have a big impact.
  • Enthusiastic about Uber!
  • Fluent in Japanese (written and oral).
  • Employment law experience in Japan.
  • Employment law experience in Korea would be nice to have.

Uber's mission is to reimagine the way the world moves for the better. Here, bold ideas create real-world impact, challenges drive growth, and speed fuelds progress. What moves us, moves the world - let's move it forward, together.
Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber's cultural identity. Unless formally approved to work fully remotely, Uber expects employees to spend at least half of their work time in their assigned office. For certain roles, such as those based at green-light hubs, employees are expected to be in-office for 100% of their time. Please speak with your recruiter to better understand in-office expectations for this role.
Accommodations may be available based on religious and/or medical conditions, or as required by applicable law. To request an accommodation, please reach out to accommodations@uber.com.
