About the Role
Uber's Customer Obsession (CO)team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build high-scale, easy-to-use, full-stack customer engagement experiences powered by ML/AI**-with a focused charter supporting** Autonomous Vehicle (AV)programs.
CO powers the "front door" of customer care for riders, eaters, delivery partners, merchants, and support agents**-globally. We build seamless experiences across** web and mobile**, delivered through** text, voice, and video
. Our goal is simple: make it effortless for customers to self-serve when possible, and exceptionally efficient for agents when human help is needed.

What the Candidate Will Do
-
Architect and build scalable, fault-tolerant systems that support customer interactions around the world. Demonstrating technical leadership by setting technical direction for large, multi-quarter initiatives**, balancing speed, quality, reliability, and cost.**

Partner closely with Product, Data Science, and Operations to define outcomes, translate needs into system designs, and ship measurable improvements.

Identify friction and bottlenecks across the support lifecycle and deliver solutions that reduce resolution time and improve customer trust.

Apply modern ML/AI capabilities to improve both self-service and agent-assisted experiences.

Own critical systems end-to-end-from initial design through launch, iteration, and operational excellence in production.
-
Define and drive best practices for testing, deployment, monitoring, incident response, and post-production learning**.**

Basic Qualifications
-
BS degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
-
5+ years of industry experience as a Software Engineer building scalable, highly available platforms
-
Expertise with large-scale distributed systems**(e.g., Kafka) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and proven track record leading the delivery of** production-grade systems**(deployment, monitoring, reliability, on-call readiness, incident learning)**

Proficiency in at least one: Golang, Scala, or Java and comfortable with scripting in JavaScript and/or Python

Strong experience with microservices and gRPC/REST API design, including defining durable interfaces and platform standards

Excellent cross-functional communication skills: crisp design docs, architecture reviews, stakeholder alignment, and technical decision-making

Preferred Qualifications

Experience building software in the Autonomous Vehicle (AV)domain

Experience applying AI-powered frameworks/tools in modern production environments

Background in customer service, engagement, or support platforms- Experience working effectively with distributed/global teams

Experience with scalability engineering (high throughput, low latency, cost optimization, reliability)

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD**$202,000 per year**
-
USD**$224,000 per year**.
You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan.
