About the Role

The U4B Platforms Org in Bangalore is building and evolving the best-in-class business systems for Uber B2B Customers, which enables experiences and tools for reliable, configurable, and intelligent business lifecycle management. The platform enables end-to-end B2B experience enabling cost-efficient business growth through acquisition, retention, and resurrection.

The team is full-stack and cross-functional. There will be significant, challenging problems and will need collaborations with Product Management, Design, Security and Data teams.

As part of the team, you will have direct responsibility for vital systems and processes. You will take ownership of key features and initiatives in crafting and building high-quality, scalable systems to make incentives reliable and efficient.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  1. Sr Engineers at Uber leads complex engineering projects through all lifecycle stages, from idea inception to production. They define technical directions and make key tradeoff decisions that balance priorities.
  2. They build strategic relationships with stakeholders like product managers, designers, and operations representatives to align and deliver on organizational goals, both within their team and across different teams.
  3. Senior engineers embrace and promote Uber's cultural values. They are instrumental in defining and fostering the engineering and people culture within their teams.
  4. They actively recruit, onboard, and mentor engineers, consistently raising the hiring bar and enhancing interviewing skills to attract top talent.
  5. These engineers set high standards in code and design reviews, soliciting and providing feedback that optimizes both. They define, evangelize, and lead the adoption of best practices across teams.
  6. Senior engineers identify opportunities to improve performance, efficiency, and reduce technical debt both within their team and across multiple teams. They solve business problems using advanced software design principles and architecture suited to Uber's needs.
  7. They represent the organisation and its engineering teams in broader internal and external technical communities, helping shape the technical landscape at Uber and beyond

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  1. Bachelors or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field
  2. 5+ years full-time Software Engineering work experience, in one or more of the following areas:
  3. Designing end-to-end data solutions and architecture
  4. Experience with low latency backend services in Java/Go/C++
  5. Experience working with different data structures
  6. Platform development, cross team collaboration is a plus
  7. Candidates with experience in environments with similar scale and complexity to Uber are preferred, as this demonstrates the ability to handle Uber's unique technical challenges.
  8. Candidates who exhibit the ability to make intelligent bets on high-impact innovations and possess good judgment to fail fast when necessary will be highly valued.
  9. Demonstrated ability to improve key metrics related to their previous projects or platforms significantly and consistently raising the hiring bar in interviews

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

  1. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to solve business problems with simple and elegant designs and architectures. They should be adept at using software design principles and methods and understand the limitations of existing software solutions to build effective architectures that integrate with existing solutions.
  2. Prospective engineers should have the ability to improve company and industry tools and best practices related to software architecture. They should identify and solve architectural gaps and reduce technical debt across teams.
  3. At the Senior level, candidates are expected to have successfully delivered multiple projects from inception to production readiness. They should be directly responsible for one or more cross-team projects.
  4. Solid foundations in computer science, including data structures, algorithms, and system design. Experience with multithreaded programming and memory management is crucial.
  5. Strong capability in analyzing system logs and debugging complex software systems is essential.
