About the Role
The Uber Legal Team is currently searching for a Complex Insurance Litigation & Strategy, Sr. Counsel, with expertise in taking cases to trial, general liability litigation, advising business partners, and experience managing high volume litigation. This position is open in the San Francisco, Chicago, NYC offices.
The Complex Insurance Litigation & Strategy team oversees and manages litigation and claims arising out of Uber's insurance policies. In doing so, the team works hand in hand with our insurance partners and outside counsel to drive solutions and innovate. This innovative team also works across Uber's business teams, from operations to safety, to evaluate and manage risk.

What You'll Do

Attend and manage complex trials; travel required.

Manage a portfolio of general liability claims and litigation nationally.

Analyze claims/cases to effectively participate in decisions related to resolution strategy and innovating legal precedent.

Management of outside counsel.

Work across our business and legal teams to advise on risk management initiatives, including advising on products and features, as well as existing processes and procedures across the mobility platform.

Basic Qualifications
-
A minimum of 8 years of insurance company or law firm experience with specific experience handling high-severity matters.

J.D. and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
In-house experience is strongly preferred, with significant experience managing a case through pleadings, motion practice, discovery, dispute resolution and trial (both state and federal).

Experience with advising business partners on consumer facing applications/software.

Solid case evaluation abilities, critical thinking skills and the capacity to oversee a large portfolio of high-severity matters.

First chair mediation and trial experience.

Extensive deposition experience, including presenting both lay and expert witnesses.

Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative with both business leaders and legal groups, with a proven ability to build relationships, gain credibility and trust, and partner across functions to build consensus.

Exceptional communication skills, with an ability to distill complex legal issues into actionable guidance for non-legal audiences.

Curiosity, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address them.

For Chicago, IL-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD**$228,000 per year**

USD**$253,000 per year**.

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD**$253,000 per year**

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD**$253,000 per year**

For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
