Position Overview
Thomson Reuters is seeking an Attorney Editor. In this role, you'll research and analyze procedural authorities across jurisdictions to identify docketable deadlines and translate them into structured rules sets used for legal calendaring. You'll write clear event narratives and calculations with supporting citations, document editorial decisions, and collaborate with the team to deliver accurate, timely releases.
About the Role:
In this opportunity, as an **Attorney Editor,**you will:

Analyze procedural laws, statutes, court rules, administrative orders, and standing orders at multiple jurisdictional levels to identify and isolate docketable deadlines, using Westlaw and official court websites to gather and verify source materials.

Draft, review, and maintain hierarchical rules sets for legal calendaring across jurisdictions and subject matters, applying technical standards for rule coding, calculation fields, authority citation formats, and inheritance structures.

Write clear, consistent event narratives, deadline calculations, and supporting legal citations for procedural requirements, and document decisions regarding inclusion/exclusion of deadlines with detailed records of sources and rationale.

Periodically review released rules sets to incorporate amendments, modifications, and new legal/procedural requirements, staying current on developments affecting calendaring.

Adhere to production schedules, release cycles, and quality standards established by the Rules Calendaring Team, maintaining high quality through objective metrics, peer/manager review, and client feedback.

Collaborate with rules writers, reviewers, managers, and information coordinators to draft, review, and release rules sets, participating in regular team meetings to discuss issues and share best practices.

Conduct thorough self-review and peer review to ensure accuracy, completeness, consistency, and proper organization of rules sets and related documentation.

Participate in training, feedback, evaluation, and performance development processes, and contribute to special projects, training efforts, and/or client support as assigned.
About You:
You're a fit for the role of an Attorney Editor if your background includes:

Attorney-level background with proven legal research and legal writing abilities.

Must be a licensed attorney in good standing (bar admission required).

It would be nice to have experience with U.S. litigation, including familiarity with relevant procedures and the ability to manage deadline-driven requirements.

Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and sound judgment in interpreting authorities and making inclusion/exclusion decisions.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Comfort working within structured editorial standards, production schedules, and evolving tools/technologies.
