Job Description

Drive Transformation. Shape Innovation. Make an Impact.

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, every one of our 120,000 extraordinary minds contributes to a mission that matters—enabling our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. When you join us, you become part of a global organisation where your work accelerates scientific breakthroughs and real-world impact.

We are seeking a strategic, forward-thinking Digital & IT leader to guide the digital future of our Australia and New Zealand organisation. As Director, Digital & IT (ANZ), you will play a pivotal role in shaping technology strategy, driving AI adoption, enhancing digital capability, and advising both internal leaders and external customers on transformative digital solutions.

This is not a traditional IT role—it's a leadership position at the intersection of technology, business strategy, and customer innovation.

About the Role

The Director, Digital & IT (ANZ) serves as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders and a key partner to global and regional Digital & IT teams. You will design and execute the ANZ digital, technology, and AI roadmap, ensuring our systems, platforms, and data capabilities scale with business growth and operational excellence.

A unique and exciting part of this role is its customer-facing remit. You will work directly with clients to support their digital transformation journeys, acting as a subject matter expert in laboratory automation, digital workflows, and Generative AI. Through a consultative and technically skilled approach, you will help customers unlock productivity, strengthen data integrity, and accelerate innovation using Thermo Fisher’s digital solutions.

This role is ideal for a transformative, commercially astute leader who thrives in a global matrix environment and is energised by the opportunity to shape both organisational and customer success.

Key Responsibilities

Business & IT Leadership

  • Lead the digital, technology, and AI strategy across ANZ in line with enterprise growth priorities.

  • Translate digital and AI vision into actionable, value-driven business roadmaps.

  • Strengthen data foundations, governance, and capability to build enterprise readiness for AI.

  • Ensure digital and IT initiatives deliver measurable outcomes in productivity, efficiency, and customer experience.

  • Act as the bridge between business strategy and technology execution, ensuring clarity, alignment, and delivery excellence.

  • Oversee IT governance, security, infrastructure, application portfolio, and business continuity planning.

  • Advocate for ANZ priorities within global Digital & IT structures.

Customer Engagement & Digital Advisory

  • Partner directly with customers to assess digital opportunities and support transformation initiatives.

  • Provide expertise in automation, digital workflows, and Generative AI to enhance scientific and operational outcomes.

  • Build strong external relationships that reinforce Thermo Fisher as a trusted digital innovation partner.

People Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Digital & IT team.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Align talent and capability to strategic priorities and future business needs.

Financial Management & Governance

  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long-term technology investment planning.

  • Ensure governance, compliance, and disciplined value realisation from digital and IT initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Business, or related field (postgraduate preferred).

  • 10+ years of progressive digital/IT leadership, ideally in complex global or matrixed environments.

  • Proven track record in digital transformation, AI-led innovation, and enterprise-scale technology delivery.

  • Experience advising senior leaders and customers on digital strategy and operational improvement.

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise systems and ERPs (JDE preferred).

  • Broad commercial exposure across industries is advantageous.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strategic orientation and ability to translate vision into actionable business impact.

  • Strong commercial acumen and financial insight.

  • Inspirational leadership with a focus on capability building and accountability.

  • High change agility and resilience in fast-paced environments.

  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.

  • High integrity, professionalism, and commitment to continuous improvement.
