DESCRIPTION:
Join the Environmental and Food Safety R&D team as a Product Application Chemist, where you will contribute directly to the research and development of analytical solutions supporting environmental monitoring and food safety testing. In this role, you will design, develop, and validate application methods using advanced analytical techniques, generating high-quality scientific data to support new product development and technology innovation.
You will work within a multidisciplinary R&D environment, collaborating with chemists, engineers, and scientists to evaluate performance, optimize analytical workflows, and ensure methods meet scientific and regulatory expectations. Your work will support the development of robust, reproducible applications addressing complex matrices, trace-level contaminants, and emerging analytical challenges.
As part of the R&D organization, you will contribute to technical documentation, internal knowledge sharing, and scientific publications, and may present results at scientific conferences. This role plays a key part in advancing Thermo Fisher Scientific’s environmental and food safety technologies through applied research and method development.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced Degree or Bachelor’s Degree plus 5 years of experience in analytical chemistry
- Strong knowledge of chromatography, mass spectrometry, microscopy or related analytical techniques based on position focus
- Demonstrated ability to design, execute and document scientific experiments and workflows
- Strong expertise in chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS/LC-MS) for environmental and food safety applications
- Hands-on experience with method development, optimization, and validation in R&D settings
- Experience working with complex matrices (environmental samples, food, biological or chemical matrices)
- Knowledge of regulatory and standard methods (e.g. ISO, EPA, EFSA, AOAC) and method validation principles
- Experience working in regulated R&D or laboratory environments
- Experience creating technical content including application notes, presentations, and training materials
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to present to diverse audiences
- Project management capabilities and attention to detail
- Experience working effectively in cross-functional teams
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
- Proficiency with relevant software and data analysis tools
- Customer-focused mindset with excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to travel 25-40% for customer support, training and conferences
- Experience with quality systems and regulated environments preferred
- Fluency in English required, additional languages valuable
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize multiple projects
