DESCRIPTION:

Guide innovative IT solutions at Thermo Fisher Scientific, overseeing key technology initiatives that enable our mission of making the world healthier, cleaner and safer. Collaborate with business leaders to develop and implement strategic technology roadmaps while managing teams across multiple locations. Support digital transformation through implementation of advanced solutions in areas like cloud computing, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and enterprise systems. Ensure operational excellence, security compliance, and continuous improvement of IT services while nurturing a collaborative culture focused on customer success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead technical design reviews, architecture planning, and prototyping of modern cloud-native applications.
• Define and drive end-to-end software architecture for sophisticated systems.
• Collaborate with product managers, systems engineers, and developers to transform product requirements into scalable software solutions.
• Architect and implement secure, performant solutions on AWS using standard methodologies for CI/CD, observability, and fault tolerance.
• Ensure alignment to cybersecurity standards, including risk analysis, data protection, and secure coding.
• Oversee front-end and back-end development using Angular, Java (Spring Boot), and PostgreSQL.
• Guide the integration of software with embedded systems, instrumentation, or other hardware components typical in life science and diagnostics environments.
• Participate in regulatory audits and ensure that software development processes follow FDA, ISO 13485, and related standards.
• Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
• Optionally contribute to DevOps automation and pipeline development using Azure DevOps or equivalent tools.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 15+ years of progressive experience in software development, with at least 5 years in architecture roles.
• Design, develop, and maintain applications across hybrid Mainframe and distributed systems environments
• Develop backend services using Java and Python
• Create and maintain automation scripts using Shell scripting
• Collaborate with front-end teams working in low-code and modern UI platforms
• Integrate applications with AWS cloud services
• Design, query, and optimize relational and vector databases
• Build reporting and dashboards using Power BI
• Participate in Agile development processes using Jira
• Contribute to AI/ML-enabled initiatives and data-driven solutions
• Ensure scalability, reliability, and performance across systems
• Experience in using AI / ML and use of new tooling to drive efficiency.
• Industry certifications like PMP, ITIL, or technical certifications beneficial
• Experience leading complex enterprise IT projects and programs
• Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, applications, security and compliance requirements
• Experience managing vendor relationships and third-party contracts
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with ability to engage at all levels
• Experience building and developing successful teams
• Experience with agile methodologies and digital transformation initiatives
• Business acumen and ability to align technology solutions with business objectives
• Expertise in IT service delivery, operations and process improvement
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
• Experience with regulated environments (GMP, FDA, etc.) preferred
• Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
• Leadership experience in matrix organizational structures
• Change management and organizational transformation experience
