Senior Legal Counsel – APAC

Thermo Fisher Scientific seeks a motivated and driven senior legal counsel to join our team. You will work closely with country and global teams on legal and compliance matters. Your expertise will ensure flawless execution of our business strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the legal business partner for designated China business divisions and supporting functions and be responsible for all legal matters of these divisions and functions, including without limitation,
- Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts/documents related to the day-to-day operations throughout China
- Assessing business models in projects (such as OEM or localization) and providing strategic advice from legal and practical perspectives
- Managing claims, disputes, mediations, litigation and/or arbitrations related to channel partners, export controls, product liabilities, contract performance and etc.
- Responding to and advising on customer or government investigations or audits
- Serve as a subject matter expert for advising on China-related digital transformation projects and on cybersecurity, data privacy and AI related China legal issues by collaborating with China and global stakeholders, including without limitation
- Guiding project owner to appropriately follow the company’s risk assessment procedures and advising on China-related mitigation measures
- Reviewing, revising and drafting legal documentation related to the mitigation measures mentioned above (e.g., data processing agreements/clauses)
- Supporting global and local IT team in implementing compliance improvement initiatives from a China legal perspective
- Coordinating with legal counsels in the APAC region in responding to inquires and in providing feedback to global center of excellence.
- Reviewing and keeping updated regulatory development and enforcement trend that may affect the operation of the divisions and functions
- Using lessons learnt from daily advice or disputes resolutions to develop materials for trainings and innovative AI solution for Legal.
- Developing collaborative and positive relationships both internally and within third party organizations, including outside counsels and industry associations.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Law degree from a recognized university/law school.
- PRC qualification is a must; US bar is a plus
- At least 8 years of solid experience preferably within multinational companies as in-house counsel and/or an international law firm, with APAC legal support experience a plus.
- Hands-on experience in advising on at least one of the following area is a must and on both a plus: (a) dispute resolution, government audit and investigation; or (b) China-related AI, cybersecurity and data privacy legal matters
- Experience in designing or implementing AI solution for Legal is a plus
- Proven experience working within matrix organizations and adopting various legal approaches.
- Excellent business sense, sound judgment, great teamwork and strong communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to develop practical processes/approaches and drive solutions to completion.
- Proficient in spoken and written English.
