Job Description Senior Manager, Systems Engineering – qPCR Platforms
About the Role
In the role of Systems Engineering Senior Lead, you’ll be the architect and technical owner of our next-generation qPCR systems. You’ll bring together hardware, software, assays, algorithms, and consumables into one cohesive platform — driving innovation from concept to commercialization!
This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on technical depth. You’ll lead a team of architects and engineers, partner with business and product leaders, and ensure every system we build is reliable, scalable, and ground-breaking for our customers.
What You’ll Do Own the System Architecture
-
Define and own the system architecture for integrated qPCR platforms spanning hardware, software, assay, and algorithm development.
-
Translate user needs and business goals into clear system requirements that balance performance, usability, manufacturability, and compliance.
-
Lead design trade-offs and technical risk analyses to ensure robustness and scalability.
-
Champion the architectural vision from early concept through final commercial product.
Lead multi-functional Integration
-
Partner closely with Product Management, Operations, Assay,Software, and Algorithm teams to align technology and product strategies.
-
Drive system-level integration, ensuring seamless collaboration across fields and geographies.
-
Communicate complex technical decisions and trade-offs to senior collaborators with clarity and influence.
-
Work hand-in-hand with Manufacturing, Quality, and Service teams to ensure design choices enable smooth scale-up and long-term reliability.
Drive Innovation and Execution
-
Serve as the hands-on technical authority for system definition, integration, and root-cause analysis.
-
Guide technology down-selection, system verification, and early-stage prototyping efforts.
-
Advance systems engineering practices — adopting model-based methods, simulation tools, and data-driven approaches.
-
Champion new technologies and ideas that push the boundaries of what’s possible in qPCR instrumentation.
Build and Develop the Team
-
Recruit, mentor, and empower an extraordinary systems engineering team.
-
Create a culture that values innovation, rigor, and collaborative problem-solving.
-
Provide mentorship and growth opportunities for emerging technical leaders.
-
Shape and scale systems engineering excellence across the broader R&D organization.
What You Bring
-
8 years of experience in systems engineering or multi-functional product development for life science or diagnostic instruments.
-
Proven record of leading system integration across hardware, software, and consumables — from concept to launch.
-
Demonstrated success managing and developing successful technical teams.
-
Strong experience working in regulated environments (ISO 13485, FDA QSR, CE-IVD).
-
Ability to partner strategically with Product Management and business leaders to translate vision into executable roadmaps.
-
Deep understanding of systems engineering principles and broad technical fluency across mechanical, electrical, software, and assay domains.
-
Excellent communication and influencing skills; comfortable communicating complex ideas to both engineers and executives.
Education
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Software) or Applied Physics; advanced degree preferred.
