Location/Division Specific Information
You will be directly involved in leading our Biomanufacturing team in the production of cell culture media and freeze-dried powder products sold under Thermo Fisher Scientific’s market leading Gibco brand. The products we make from our Auckland facility are used globally in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry.
About the Role:
As the go-to person, you will coordinate production workload and workflow ensuring the team maintain a strong focus on safety, quality and efficiency through adherence to SOPs and cGMP principles. You will also lead or participate in a range of process improvement initiatives where you can really make a difference. The position operates on a morning shift from 06:00 to 14:30. Candidates should be flexible with working hours and available for on-call support as business needs arise.
What You'll Do:
- Complete day-to-day production activities in conformance with specifications, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and cGMP/ISO principles. Review and complete Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs), ensuring that all information is accurate, legible and correct to guarantee traceability.
- Delegate to Production Supervisor when required. Lead daily stand-up Tier 1 meeting and bring attention to vital issues.
- Coordinate team workload and workflow and perform all tasks of a Manufacturing Technician as production demands, including preparation and communication of daily team schedule.
- Assess and ensure all staff are trained to the level of competency required (including the latest SOP revision) prior to hands-on task involvement. Ensure training records are current and maintained in conjunction with Production Supervisor.
- Ensure in-process sampling and monitoring is completed to assure batches meet specification; trouble-shoot and improve processes, procedures and product issues and encourage others to get involved.
- Review and/or revise manufacturing documentation including SOPs and BMRs; lead, assist and participate in investigations including completing Trackwise Problem Records, projects, validation and Practical Process Improvement (PPI) activities (Kaizens and JDIs), and regularly applies continuous improvement methodologies in daily work to advance quality and cost, and efficiency gains. Balance multiple tasks and prioritize critical tasks and assist others to do so.
- Actively participate in EHS system by adhering to policies and procedures and reporting hazards to ensure a safe and healthy workplace environment for all. Communicate issues and potential solutions to the Production Supervisor as they arise and carry out the work you're doing that contributes to the efficient operation of the team and business.
- Support regular cycle count activities to maintain inventory accuracy for stock and non-stock materials, investigating and resolving discrepancies as needed.
- Solve moderate to complex problems within process guidelines and assists others to do the same. Independently works to complete a variety of complex to difficult tasks.
- Facilitate positive team dynamics, including resolving any difference in opinion or approach.

Science related qualification is desirable.
Experience
- Experience in cGMP manufacturing or laboratory environment is crucial
- Proven leadership capabilities.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment
Works in a controlled and cleanroom environment. May be required to lift up to 20kg and stand for long periods of time while performing duties. Able to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials.
