About the role
What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to lead the launch and ramp of production for Optimus humanoid robot hands, one of the most complex and critical subsystems in the robot. In this role you will collaborate with Design, Manufacturing Automation, and Production teams to optimize designs for manufacturability, develop assembly processes and commission automated lines in Tesla factories.
What You’ll Do
- Participate in the creation and validation of new product architectures enabling Optimus to scale
- Optimize existing product designs for manufacturability, assembly, cost and quality
- Define process sequences, critical parameters and quality gates for robotic hand assembly
- Develop and commission novel manufacturing equipment and automated assembly lines
- Manage equipment suppliers to deliver production-ready lines on time and to standard
- Drive line ramp-up, resolve technical issues and optimize processes to target rate and yield
- Perform equipment capacity analysis and line balancing
- Create process specifications, validation reports and troubleshooting documentation
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years launching complex electro-mechanical products into high-volume production
- Experience applying first-principles thinking to manufacturing challenges
- Proficiency in CAD with GD&T experience
- Expertise in Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturability
- Experience with automated assembly processes and equipment
- Strong project leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Travel up to 35% to Tesla factories and automation vendors
