What to Expect
We are looking for a Camera Systems Engineer to join the Camera Hardware Engineering team. The candidate will manage a diverse set of responsibilities ranging from simulation and modeling to mechanical design and integration. The ideal candidate will primarily work on the development and ownership of image simulation pipelines from first principles, modeling all aspects of the camera system such as lens, opto-mechanics, sensor, ISP etc. The candidate will also design and develop tests and test fixtures for validating these pipelines in the lab. The camera hardware engineering team manages the full development lifecycle of camera systems for Tesla’s vehicle and robotics platforms.
What You’ll Do
- Develop radiometrically accurate image simulation pipelines
- Work cross functionally to develop high fidelity models of all aspects of the camera system such lenses, opto-mechanics, sensors and ISP etc.
- Write and maintain efficient simulation tooling to rapidly iterate on new architecture studies and root cause field issues
- Define and maintain test specifications and validate simulation pipelines in the lab with real hardware
What You’ll Bring
- Strong knowledge of imaging system fundamentals and radiometry with a clear understanding of how to go from photons to images
- Strong coding experience in MATLAB and/or Python
- Experience with optical system analysis using lens design tools such as Zemax, CODE V etc. including tolerance analysis, macro development and analysis automation
- Experience with optical testing equipment such as Triopitcs Image Master HR or equivalent
- Strong technical leadership skills, ability to drive equipment vendors and a go-getter attitude where anything that does not violate physics is possible
- Strong communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)
