About the role

What to Expect

As a Plastics Manufacturing Engineer at Tesla, you will design, install and commission Injection molding Presses, Resin Supply and Temperature Control Systems (TCUs). You will define the Manufacturing Layout, processes, and equipment. You will work with a highly motivated cross-functional team and deliver turnkey solutions to enable vehicle production at rate. You will develop processes for highest safety, quality, and efficiency while reducing overall cost. Involvement will start in design phase of new programs until stable production metrics are achieved.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and configure Injection Molding presses, TCUs and Resin supply systems based on Mold Tooling and part level requirements

  • Develop these systems through continuous design reviews and perform thorough validations via FAT on vendor floor

  • Receive equipment, install, Power on, commission and pass all buy offs and optimize OEE for handover to operations

  • Collaborate with Factory Layout and Material Flow Team to identify space constraints and design Equipment and Process layouts accordingly

  • Collaborating with Controls engineering team to ensure all Tesla equipment is built to Tesla standards for ease of Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Supporting all engineering builds and verifying scalability of processes

  • Developing and executing production process validation criteria using standardized metrics (cycle time, OEE, MTBF, etc.)

  • Collaborating with product engineering on design for manufacturing of various components to allow for an efficient Manufacturing process that builds quality into the product

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience

  • 4-5+ years of hands-on working experience with defining Plastics Equipment and Processes

  • 3+ years of Equipment install , Commissioning and  Troubleshooting experience

  • 3D Modeling experience (CATIA/ SOLIDWORKS) to design fixtures, Assemblies and perform tooling clash studies

  • AutoCAD 2D experience to design 2D line Layouts in Factory grids

  • Minitab experience to perform Statistical Process Control and Quality studies

  • 30% Travel Requirement for Domestic and International travel

  • Strong foundation of problem-solving skills, statistical process control, design of experiments and simulation techniques

  • Understanding of Design for Assembly (DFM), lean manufacturing, and capacity planning techniques

  • Exceptional project management and leadership skills
