About the role
What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager on the Optimus Manufacturing Engineering team to drive the design, build and launch of high-volume manufacturing lines for humanoid robots. You will own programs from concept to completion, managing scope, schedule, cost and execution across assembly lines in global Tesla facilities. You will coordinate design engineering, manufacturing, controls, testing, software, quality, construction, and production to align team goals with company priorities. You will translate scattered information into a clear message, remove roadblocks before they impact the program, and drive the team toward production targets that push the limits of what is physically possible.
The key objective of the team is to develop new and innovative manufacturing lines in the factory to achieve ambitious production goals. All these manufacturing processes will be initially planned, assembled and tested at our Tesla facilities.
What You’ll Do
- Own concept-to-completion delivery of manufacturing programs from ideation and validation through production execution
- Create, maintain & communicate schedules & plans covering process development, process validation, line design, equipment fabrication, Factory Acceptance Test, shipping, Site Acceptance Test and production ramp
- Drive vendor partnerships with supply chain & purchasing to align on engineering requirements, scope, schedule & cost
- Coordinate build milestones with design engineering, manufacturing engineering, controls, facilities, construction & operation teams
- Set goals, track deliverables, identify risk & drive mitigations across all project stages
- Track equipment readiness, project cost & report status, blockers & changes to senior leadership
- Drive requirements & solutions with internal stakeholders across infrastructure, logistics, controls, software & manufacturing engineering
- Identify team priorities & motivate the project team to complete critical tasks within time & resource constraints
- Own report-outs across all levels of management & functions within Tesla
- Travel 10-25% domestically & internationally to support builds, FAT, install, commissioning & vendor engagements
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in engineering, or equivalent experience
- Experience across a mix of engineering & project management
- Experience in technical program or project management, ideally with multiple delivered projects of medium to large sized capital equipment systems ($5M-$25M+)
- Experience coordinating between technical & non-technical team members across multiple time zones
- Experience with project management tools such as MS Project & JIRA
- First-hand experience as a manufacturing engineer in a complex construction, production or manufacturing environment
- Ability to handle stress & drive the program forward amid competing priorities & conflicting requirements
- Self-driven, passionate, responsible & responsive with strong ownership of outcomes
