The role

Tesla’s cell manufacturing engineering group is looking for a highly motivated process development engineer to accelerate our next generation battery cell manufacturing program. This role will be involved in the development, standardization and ramping up Electrode manufacturing process.

The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits, as they join in highly motivated and capable team to make unbelieve things into reality.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive complex roll to roll manufacturing equipment.
  • Subject matter expert to drive process development and improve and standardize process and build process models.
  • Process failure analysis including detailed troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Drive automated process controls, define control logic, and interactions between process and equipment parameters.
  • Conduct Process DOE’s and conclude the results.
  • Work collaboratively with cross functional stakeholders to ensures production lines run in a safe, efficient manner with high quality parts.
  • Troubleshoot and recover processes by PLC, HMI, or tool management software, and implement changes/improvements
  • Build training material, operating procedures, and related documentation and train the personals

What You’ll Bring

  • Either a Ph. D. Physical Science/Engineering field or an MS with 1+ years relevant experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering.
  • Minimum 1+ year experience on battery electrode development/manufacturing or high-speed roll-to-roll process
  • Strong background in AI based data analytics, develop hybrid models combining machine learning and physics.
  • FMEA, Control plans, statistical software (JMP) experience a plus
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing is highly desired
