Team overview: Sustainable Investing Research
The Sustainable Investing Research (“SI Research”) team conducts thematic research, produces thought leadership, enables product innovation, and ensures the integrity of sustainable investing data that is integrated in client portfolios to achieve various sustainable investing objectives. The team is responsible for developing the investment thesis for sustainable investing themes, backed by deep research, and producing thought leadership to share insights with clients.
Through its expertise, it also enables sustainable investing product development and develops new capabilities to support product innovation, with the goal of ensuring these capabilities are credible in their approach to achieving sustainable investing objectives. As part of its mandate to ensure data integrity, the team owns the firm’s sustainable investing data and vendor strategy to stay on top of emerging capabilities, acts as the centre of expertise on sustainable investing data for investment teams, and maintains strong data monitoring and governance practices.
Role: Sustainable Investing Research – Senior Associate
Key Responsibilities
- Support State Street Investment Management’s sustainable investing data strategy with rigorous analytical insights
- Perform data due diligence and manage onboarding of ESG/climate data vendors and platforms.
- Maintain and improve centralized sustainability data architecture (Python/SQL-based pipelines, curated datasets, analytical tools).
- Collaborate with investments, and strategy teams to develop sustainable investment solutions.
- Enable SI research capabilities for product innovation.
- Contribute to white papers, research notes, and thought leadership.
Requirements
Must Have
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Environmental Science/Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of relevant experience in ESG, climate data, investment analytics, or financial data roles (internships and project work count for early‑career candidates).
Data & Technical Skills
- Strong working knowledge of Python and SQL for data extraction, cleaning, validation, and analysis.
- Hands‑on experience working with structured datasets and automated data pipelines, and identify data quality issues.
- Experience supporting data quality checks, monitoring, and reconciliation to ensure accurate delivery of data to investment or analytics teams
- Strong attention to detail and ownership mindset for recurring data deliverables
Product & Research Support
- Ability to support sustainable investment product development by analyzing ESG/climate data in line with stated investment objectives.
- Experience producing analytical outputs, summaries, or research notes for internal stakeholders
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain data concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Good documentation habits to ensure transparency and continuity
Good to Have
- Familiarity with portfolio construction concepts, fixed income or equity strategies, and how ESG or climate factors are integrated into investment processes.
- Strong personal interest or passion for sustainability, ESG, and climate‑related investment innovation
