What you get to do in this role:
Service Now’s App Engine business unit is focused on empowering enterprises with a low-code platform that enables rapid application development and governance at scale. Our low-code governance domain helps ensure security, compliance, and best practices across app development. We are a team of experienced and passionate product managers who drive product vision, define customer needs, and collaborate to deliver innovative solutions.
The App Engine Engineering group at Service Now is growing rapidly and is looking for a talented and experienced Senior director to join and lead multiple teams of engineers working on App Engine which allows our customers to easily low-code or no-code applications. If you are a passionate leader looking for an opportunity to shape the future of developer experiences and drive innovation in a fast-growing organization, this is the role for you. This leader owns the core technology and user experience we use to help our customers build, deploy, and run custom SaaS-based business applications.
This individual will be a high potential technology leader who understands technical and business realities and can articulate both a near-term action plan and a long-term vision and exert positive influence on the rapid achievement of milestones. The Senior Director will have a track record in the delivery of software products with proven experience in building, managing and motivating a strong distributed team of web developers and software engineers responsible for developing and deploying web-scale, SaaS-based solutions according to customer and business requirements.
This role will have visibility at the senior executive levels of Service Now and manage key mission critical programs that impact the division and other teams across the company. This leader must be a true cultural evangelist who will advocate for both the division and company’s forward-looking transformation. Success is helping to grow this business by building awesome low code consumer grade user experiences that enable regular people to build meaningful apps that route work across the enterprise on the Service Now platform.
To be successful in this role you have:
Experience in leveraging or critically thinking about how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving. This may include using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, analyzing AI-driven insights, or exploring AI's potential impact on the function or industry.
10+ years in engineering leadership, with experience building and scaling distributed teams of software engineers. You've led multiple teams and shipped products that developers love.
Deep technical grounding in developer tooling, IDE experiences, code generation, or platform infrastructure. Hands-on familiarity with areas like Java, JavaScript, modern UI frameworks, and REST services.
Direct experience building AI-powered developer tools — whether agentic coding assistants, intelligent automation, copilot-style experiences, or AI-driven development workflows. You understand the architecture and UX challenges unique to this space.
Strong product instinct. You can translate technical capability into developer experiences that drive adoption and measurable business outcomes.
Executive communication skills. You'll regularly engage with senior leadership across Service Now, translating technical strategy into business terms and influencing cross-functional priorities.
A builder's mentality. You're willing to dig into architecture decisions, troubleshoot hard problems alongside your team, and continuously raise the bar on engineering practices — code reviews, testing, build processes, and iterative delivery.
Cross-functional fluency. You work effectively across business units, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders without losing focus on your core mission.
Bonus:
Experience with enterprise platform development or platform extensibility
Track record shipping agentic AI or LLM-powered tooling in production environments
Background in developer experience (Dev Ex) or developer productivity engineering
