Software Engineering Intern, Pokémon GO – Summer 2026

Locations: San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Seattle

Scopely is seeking Software Engineering Interns to join us for Summer 2026, supporting Pokémon GO. Niantic Games, now part of Scopely, builds innovative, real-world gaming experiences that inspire movement, exploration, and social connection.

As a Software Engineering Intern, you will contribute to the development of Pokémon GO. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers across server, mobile, gaming, full-stack, and data, gaining hands-on experience building large-scale products used by millions of players around the world.

This internship is designed for students who are passionate about building scalable systems, solving complex technical challenges, and contributing to engaging global gaming experiences.

What You Will Do

  • Design and implement new features and improvements that make a positive impact on billions of users.

  • Develop clean, well-structured, and production-ready code that may be included in future software releases.

  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to solve complex technical problems, including distributed systems and geo-scaled data challenges.

  • Contribute to performance improvements, reliability enhancements, and scalable architecture.

  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and team learning sessions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, graduating in 2027 or 2028.

  • Previous internship experience in software engineering preferred.

  • Strong coding, debugging, and problem-solving skills.

  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, including algorithms and data structures.

  • Familiarity with software engineering processes and tools.

  • Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language.

Nice to Have

  • Interest in building large-scale gaming systems.

  • Experience developing scalable systems, games, or high-traffic web applications.

  • Exposure to distributed systems or large-scale data environments.

Internship Details

  • 12-week in-person internship (4 day in-office schedule)

  • Opportunities available in our San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Seattle offices (supporting Pokémon GO teams)
