Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Industrial Engineer to independently support and drive Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) technology initiatives across Collins Aerospace manufacturing and MRO sites. In this role, you will lead efforts to implement AOI solutions tailored to operational needs, driving improvements in manufacturing/repair efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing product quality. Additionally, you will play a critical role in shaping our overall innovation roadmap and driving continuous improvement initiatives within our operations, ensuring sustained advancements in efficiency, quality, and technological capabilities.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical focal point for Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) within the department, acting as the primary subject matter expert and central resource for all AOI-related initiatives and strategies.

  • Lead the integration, design, and optimization of AOI technologies into existing and new systems to improve quality performance, accuracy, scalability, and operational efficiency, ensuring alignment with the methods and standards of the global central team.

  • Manage and execute AOI-specific engineering initiatives to enhance manufacturing and repair quality, processes, and productivity, while collaborating regularly with the central team to facilitate technical exchanges, share insights, and implement global best practices.

  • Oversee vendor management for AOI-related projects, including evaluating, collaborating with, and managing third-party vendors to ensure successful project delivery and alignment with organizational goals.

  • Assess operational sites to identify opportunities for AOI implementation and recommend process improvements to drive efficiency and quality, promoting standardized processes and ensuring global program scalability and sustainment through clear documentation and alignment with central team methodologies.

  • Research and recommend advancements in AOI technologies to enhance manufacturing and operational capabilities, while ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices for system design, deployment, and maintenance.

  • Mentor junior engineers and support cross-functional teams in related projects and initiatives.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial/ Mechanical Engineering or related field
At least 8-10 years

Preferred Skills (if any):

  • 8–10 years of industrial engineering experience, with a strong focus on leading AOI projects from concept to full implementation.

  • Proven expertise in automated optical inspection (AOI), machine vision, and computer vision technologies, with a track record of delivering successful AOI projects from concept to deployment.

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing and automation systems, including experience with tools such as Cognex, Keyence vision systems, and other AOI-related technologies.

  • Solid understanding of quality control principles, including Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) and Confusion Matrix, to define success criteria for AOI projects.

  • Skilled in system optimization, troubleshooting, and using Design of Experiments (DoE) methods to quickly define GO/NOGO criteria in inspection testing.

  • Strong vendor management skills, including the ability to evaluate, collaborate with, and manage third-party vendors to ensure project success and alignment with organizational goals

  • Exceptional problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to team members, end users, and non-technical stakeholders, highlighting both the strengths and constraints of the technology.

  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers or leading technical teams.

  • Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement frameworks is a plus.

General role in supporting CORE, EH&S, Ethics & Compliance and Quality initiatives:

CORE:

  • Support the Continuous Improvement programs and CORE Maturity activities within the Company.
  • Minimum CORE Professional certification under CORE Certification Program.

EH&S:

  • Support and participate in the EH&S programs and activities within the company.
  • Report all incidents (injuries, illnesses, near misses, spills etc.), hazardous conditions, and emergencies to his/her supervisor.
  • Responsible for performing a risk assessment of work activities, taking corrective and preventive actions.
  • Comply with EH&S regulations/policies/programs/rules and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
