Riot engineers combine deep expertise in specific technical areas with a passion for exploring broader domains. As an Engineering Manager, you’ll lead by example—driving software excellence, advocating for best practices, and ensuring the best outcomes for both developers and players. Beyond technical leadership, you’ll mentor and support your team, fostering growth, accountability, and high performance.
As a Manager, Software Engineering on the Unreal Ecosystem (Un Eco) team, you will lead a team building developer tooling and workflows that power how Riot ships Unreal games. You’ll combine people leadership, strong engineering judgment, and hands-on familiarity with tooling to improve how developers work every day. You’ll navigate diverse technical challenges, ramping up quickly on new topics and solving complex problems in ways that empower both developers and, ultimately, our players.
Responsibilities:
-
Manage a group of 4-7 software engineers, coaching them, holding them accountable to best practices and their growth plan
-
Own the roadmap and delivery of developer tooling and workflows (for example, build and release, CI/CD, editor/engine tools, diagnostics) used by multiple teams
-
Partner with discipline and product leadership to develop strategies for improving team health and effectiveness
-
Define and track metrics for developer experience and productivity, and use them - along with user feedback - to iterate on tools and agents.
-
Build healthy relationships with other engineering teams at Riot to foster cross-team collaboration
-
Mentor engineers in best practices for the current product phase
-
Champion your sourcing and hiring processes to identify and hire engineers
Required Qualifications:
-
7+ years professional experience as a software engineer working in a game development team
-
3+ years as an Engineering Manager leading engineers
-
Experience serving as a technical lead for a significant tooling, platform, or game product
-
Experience recruiting candidates and growing an engineering team
-
Experience participating in technical discussions such as technical design reviews and code reviews
Desired Qualifications:
-
Experience with game engines (ex. Unity, Unreal Engine)
-
Experience shipping software to customers
-
Experience with automation
