POSITION SUMMARY

The Quality Control (QC) Lead oversees the day-to-day quality review process for permit drawings and associated documentation produced by the drafting team. This role ensures that all design packages submitted meet jurisdictional requirements, engineering standards, and internal SOPs before advancing to the next phase.

The QC Lead manages QC Specialists, ensures consistency in review standards, partners with the Drafting Leads (PAMs) to correct upstream issues, and collaborates with the QA Team, who performs deeper RCA analysis. The QC Lead focuses on defect prevention, improving first-pass quality, and maintaining strict review accuracy within defined cycle times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

QC Operations Management

  • Lead and manage the daily QC workflow for drafting outputs across assigned region.

  • Assign QC reviews based on workload, complexity, and reviewer skill sets.

  • Monitor QC queues to ensure compliance with SLA cycle times.

  • Perform QC reviews on complex or escalated permit packages.

Leadership & Team Supervision

  • Supervise QC Engineers, ensuring consistent, accurate, and timely reviews.

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to QC team members.

  • Conduct performance feedback and recommend skill development plans.

  • Ensure adherence to standardized QC checklists, Matrix, SOPs, and review protocols.

Quality Standardization & Error Prevention

  • Enforce consistent QC interpretation across all reviewers.

  • Identify repeat errors from drafting teams and work with Drafting Leads (PAMs) to resolve issues upstream.

  • Recommend updates to QC templates, checklists, and guidelines.

  • Support drafting team training by sharing QC insights and common correction themes.

Collaboration With QA Team on RCA Trends

  • Provide QC data, correction examples, and context to the QA Team for deeper RCA validation.

  • Review QA Team feedback and translate RCA findings into corrective actions for drafters.

  • Implement process improvements based on QA-approved RCA trends.

  • Ensure QC outputs align with quality initiatives driven by QA.

Coordination with Drafting Leads (PAMs) & Research

  • Work closely with Drafting Leads to eliminate drafting errors before they reach QC.

  • Communicate unclear jurisdictional requirements or missing information back to Research.

  • Flag jurisdiction-specific issues affecting drafting accuracy.

  • Support Research Team with insights on AHJ trends or confusion points.

Metric Tracking & Reporting

  • Track daily QC completion rates, defect types, and compliance to SLAs.

  • Maintain QC milestone accuracy in Insite/Salesforce.

  • Prepare weekly quality summaries for the Regional Permit Manager.

  • Escalate recurring issues to the RPM with recommended corrective actions.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve drafting–QC handoff workflows.

  • Recommend improvements to templates, tools, and SOPs that reduce error rates.

  • Participate in cross-functional meetings with RPM, QC, PAMs, and QA teams.

  • Lead initiatives to improve first-pass yield (FPY) with validated input from QA Team.

SKILLS AND PROFICIENCIES

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of telecom/fiber permit design standards.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and ability to audit permit drawings for accuracy.

  • Deep knowledge of jurisdiction-specific permitting requirements.

  • Familiarity with plats, easements, attachments, restoration notes, and ROW elements.

  • Experience using Insite/Salesforce or similar systems for milestone tracking.

Quality & Analytical Skills

  • Ability to spot errors quickly and identify patterns in defects.

  • Strong understanding of QC methodologies and quality frameworks.

  • Comfortable interpreting QA trend reports and implementing corrective steps.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

Leadership & Communication Skills

  • Ability to coach and guide QC reviewers and collaborate with drafting teams.

  • Strong communication skills for documenting feedback and escalating issues.

  • Skilled in diplomatically delivering constructive criticism.

  • Ability to coordinate with teams across time zones.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • 3–5+ years of experience in telecom permitting, drafting, QC, or fiber engineering.

  • 1–2 years of supervisory or lead-level experience in drafting, QC, or engineering operations preferred.

  • Advanced AutoCAD review skills; ability to evaluate structural, drafting, and standards compliance issues.

  • Experience with permit lifecycle processes and jurisdictional requirements.

  • Strong English communication skills.

  • Ability to work closely with India and US stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong organization and workflow management skills.
