The Opportunity
This is more than a job; it's a mission.
As Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will lead the Mechanical Engineering function within our Defence Operating Unit. You'll oversee the development and support of mechanical and electromechanical products across their full lifecycle- from design and analysis through to manufacture readiness and in-service support.
You'll be responsible for capability, performance and continuous improvement within the Mechanical team, ensuring high-quality delivery across multiple defence programmes. Your leadership will directly support critical UK and international mission systems, including technology that underpins the Royal Navy's capability.
What You Will Do

  • Lead and develop the Mechanical Engineering team, ensuring capability, performance and wellbeing.

  • Manage resource planning, workforce development, recruitment and training.

  • Oversee engineering outputs including designs, analyses, documentation and compliance reviews.

  • Ensure high-quality delivery against schedule, cost and technical performance targets.

  • Drive continuous improvement in processes, toolsets, design practices and engineering standards.

  • Support strategic engineering initiatives and contribute to business unit objectives.
    What We're Looking For
    Essential

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience delivering mechanical or electromechanical systems in defence, maritime or aerospace.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, manufacture, analysis techniques and engineering standards.

  • Experience leading technical teams and developing engineering capability.

  • Ability to interpret, review and approve engineering designs, drawings and analyses.

  • Strong communication, organisation and stakeholder-management skills.
    Preferred

  • Chartered Engineer status.

  • Experience with CREO, Windchill or similar CAD/PLM tools.

  • Knowledge of REACH/RoHS, FEA, CFD, or manufacturing processes.
