Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is looking for a Director of Design Engineering 2 for the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) Division Engineering organization with a Design Engineering background and leadership experience. In this role, the selected leader will be responsible for the strategic oversight of 2 functional homeroom directorates driving common engineering processes, tools, and technical developmental and training resources in support of engineering employees and managers across the Division portfolio, and will directly manage 2 Design Engineering directors.

Locations: Roy UT, Huntsville AL, Colorado Springs CO, or Manhattan Beach CA

What You Will Get To Do

  • Provide strategic oversight of 2 directorates enabling design engineering execution across the SDS Division portfolio of programs while reporting to the Strategic Deterrent Systems Division's Engineering Homeroom Vice President
  • Direct the implementation of integrated design engineering process across the SDS Division, driving consistency and implementation across program/product teams at all national locations and multiple subcontractor locations
  • Responsible for performance management direct-reports and organizational matrix of 500-1500 staff
  • Responsible for allocation and management of directorate indirect budget for maximum program impact
  • Create and deploy staff training campaign, prioritizing program execution and staff technical/professional development
  • Technical ownership, compliance enforcement and continuous improvement of domain-related Principles and Operating Practice (PrOP)
  • Oversee promotion, merit/bonus processes for subordinate tech for supported programs, ensuring consistency with sector schedule and guidelines
  • Serve as delegation of authority (DOA) to FHR VP for program, division and/or sector activities as directed

  • Effectively communicate and inspire, both through verbal and written medium

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum 10 years of related experience or Master's Degree and 8 years of related experience
  • Experience in a formal management/lead position
  • Extensive CAM/P&L experience
  • 3+ years experience with:
  • Management experience leading a technical and complex program effort
    • Experience developing and administering budgets and standards of performance
    • Experience in developing and implementing technologies associated with production processes with efficient and sustainable implementation
  • U.S. Citizenship with an Active Secret Clearance with investigation date/periodic review within last 5 years and ability to obtain program special access

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in engineering or related scientific discipline
  • Experience standing up an organization and/or leading a major change initiative
  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • ICBM or complex aerospace systems experience
  • Full lifecycle program execution experience
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
  • Design Engineering/Computer-aided Design (CAD) experience
  • Prior experience interfacing with prime contractor site leads and USAF leadership personnel
  • Experience leading the performance of tasks on schedule, at cost and achieving all requirements as either project lead, integrated program team or cost account manager

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $184,600.00 - $320,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

Work Schedule & Other Details

  • Standard work schedule is a 9/80 (nine-hour day Monday through Thursday with every other Friday off)
  • Travel: Yes, 25% of the time
  • Clearance Type: Secret
