Job Description
Senior Managers within our Technology organization play a pivotal role in creating an inspiring workplace where talented professionals are empowered to deliver outstanding digital experiences and measure business outcomes. As the Senior Manager, Technical Program Management for Merchandising Technology, you will lead a team of Senior Technical Program Managers and manage multiple cross-cutting initiatives leveraging AI and partnership with business and technology stakeholders to translate long-term merchandising strategies into executable programs. Reporting to Nordstrom's VP, Technology for Merchandising, this person will have an agile mentality to work with cross-functional product & engineering teams and leadership, digging in to drive innovation and performance as we evolve the technology systems that empower Nordstrom’s merchandising systems and enable seamless operations. The ideal candidate is a pragmatic leader who can effectively establish a roadmap, framing short-term wins that ladder up to a broader strategy, with a strong emphasis on partnering within and across the technology organization.
A day in the life…
- Build High Impact Teams: Build and develop a high-performing team, promoting an environment that encourages diversity in styles, perspectives, and experience, with a focus on strong technical program management capabilities.
- Change Leader: Manage strategy and change management based on strong business cases, ROI, and long-term organizational goals, utilizing analytics and metrics.
- Focus on Organization Efficiency: Forecast long-range talent and organizational structure needs, aligning capabilities with the broader enterprise strategy, with a focus on building a strong Technical Program Management team that can partner effectively across engineering and product organizations.
- Communicate Effectively: Champion the execution of Merchandising technology roadmap and broader functional strategy, creating a compelling roadmap and plan that inspires teams, senior leaders, and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the delivery roadmap, planning for the next 6 to 18 months, ensuring that requirements are independent of a specific implementation.
- Engage with product management and engineering teams to align prioritization of merchandising initiatives and key metrics that define the success of these initiatives.
- Maintain and evolve the program roadmap cross-teams, ensuring understanding of project goals and vision with a focus on reliable and scalable merchandising technologies that enable operational excellence.
- Build and manage relationships with partners and stakeholders, resolving issues and negotiating timing of dependencies to ensure successful delivery.
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of system functionality and interactions, participating in design review processes and serving as a subject matter expert for the overall program.
- Use retrospectives throughout the program lifecycle to ensure a continuous improvement mindset.
- Contribute to scenario planning and workforce modeling to understand AI’s impact on roles, skills, and structures in Merchandising Technical Program Management organization.
- Support updates to job architecture and capability frameworks to reflect AI-enabled work for TPM discipline.
You own this if you have…
- 10+ years of IT industry experience.
- 5+ years of experience leading and developing Technical Program Management or Engineering teams, in Merchandising technology or related fields at a retail, technology, or other e Commerce company.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline.
- Previous experience leading teams through change and experience running an outcome driven approach to roadmaps and stakeholder and team alignment.
- Effective communication in a variety of settings, including one-on-one, small and large groups, and among diverse styles and position levels as well as excellent stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to define, measure and analyze processes to identify improvement opportunities.
- Proven ability to work cooperatively with others across the organization, at all levels, to achieve shared objectives.

$162,000.00 - $252,500.00 Annual
This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more.
