Job Summary

Performs various welding operations on a variety of parts or products.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Set-up, adjust and operate machines. Selects electrodes and regulates current settings, time and pressure.
  • Perform preliminary assembly of parts to be welded.
  • Spot weld on variety of parts and products.
  • Clean and inspect weld joints.
  • Handle and position work with or without the use of fixtures.
  • Follow prescribed procedures to obtain proper fusion, strength and finish to avoid distortion or burning.
  • Set-up and operate hand and machine burning equipment.
  • Space number of welds to meet varying conditions and materials.

Specialized Job Responsibilities may be required for certain positions. These could include one or more of the following duties:

  • Working from engineering drawings, work orders, work instructions and process specifications, uses Miller and Weld logic TIG welding machines to perform TIG, tack and resistive tack and laser welding operations on electromechanical products.
  • Weld metal objects together by means of an oxyacetylene torch or arc welder apparatus to fabricate metal shapes or articles or to repair broken or cracked metal objects.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to noise, vibration, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, electrical hazards. The employee is occasionally exposed to work that requires repetitive motion, toxic or caustic chemicals, and occasionally works in job assignments that may require overtime and 2nd or 3rd shift job assignments as required. Employee may be required to wear personal protective equipment appropriate to welding job being performed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to handle small components. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
