About Finance Technology
Morgan Stanley’s Finance division is the guardian of the firm’s books and records. This organization is responsible for validating and attesting to the firm’s financial and profitability, capital management, producing internal and external financial statements, and contributing to firmwide risk management.
Finance Technology is responsible for developing & supporting solutions which enable the Finance division to perform and improve upon these functions. A unique aspect of this department is the breadth of interaction across the entire firm – our systems process data for all asset types (Fixed Income, Equity, Wealth, etc.) and include data from Risk, Settlements, market data, among many others. We get the opportunity to work with many business & technology teams across all segments.
Currently, we are focused on initiatives to help further automate business processes, modernize our technology stack, and implement AI-centric solutions. In Asia, we are focused on nuances unique to the region – such as supporting multiple markets, regulators, local products and currencies.
Our team develops systems which include feature-rich Angular UIs, flexible and scalable REST services, large scale online analytical processing (50k+ jobs) of large datasets and warehouse reporting (100TB+). The technology team practices agile development and uses multiple JVM languages including Scala, Java and Groovy, as well as Python. SQL and Linux shells are also used on a daily basis.
Position Description:
We are looking for a self-motivated individual and creative thinker who will take ownership of tasks and projects, is able to work with the global team, and manage time and tasks independently.
This will entail working with other developers, teams, and the business to understand the intricacies of the data processing, implementing new flows, testing them, and ultimately deploying them to production. The ideal candidate will possess solid technical and problem-solving skills as well as the drive to learn more about the business and new technologies. Candidate should be open to full-stack development.
The position is in Tokyo. We are co-located with our clients so that we can have seamless and regular interaction with them. You would also work closely with our global development teams, project leads, and clients in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mumbai, London, Montreal and New York.
You should expect to:
- Use your technical skills to design solutions for our business as well as be hands-on. Technology choice could vary depending on the types of components and team’s strategy
- Parallelize and optimize processing & deployments
- Create data processing ETL jobs and facilitate their orchestration, performance, and stability
- Define new features in conjunction with product management, and provide specifications
- Gain an understanding of accounting and Finance’s reporting platforms
- Participate in hack days and further our DevOps, Cloud, and AI agenda
Skills Required:
- 2 to 5 years of experience with software development (we use Java/Scala and Python – as well as Angular and other web UI frameworks)
- Proficiency with SQL & Relational Databases such as Snowflake, Teradata, Sybase, or DB2
- Working knowledge of Linux – you should be able to use your toolkit to navigate, deploy, and triage
- Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong Written and Oral Communication skills
