Firm Risk Management (“FRM”) supports Morgan Stanley in achieving its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of financial risks including credit, market, liquidity, and model risks.

Background on the Position

The role will reside within FRM’s Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) area, which is a team that supports the Asia Chief Risk Officer (“CRO”), focusing on Regulatory Risk and Governance, Climate Risk, Stress Testing, Data Risk Management, Risk Reporting, Operational Controls and administration responsibilities. This is a regional role primarily responsible for supporting the COO in legal entity management and governance to ensure that the FRM department can function effectively. This role is also responsible for supporting and managing FRM projects. The COO team is spread across Singapore, Hong Kong & Tokyo and collaborates with the risk stripes (e.g. Credit Risk, Market Risk, Liquidity Risk, etc) across the risk department in Asia. This role will be situated in Singapore.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance and implement the legal entities risk management frameworks

  • Promote best practices of risk governance across legal entities

  • Drive interpretation of regulatory rules across different supervisory authorities including regulators by liaising with Compliance and Legal teams

  • Project management of areas focused on risk and regulatory priorities, including regulatory inquiries and submissions

  • Review existing and new regulatory guidelines and engage with risk stripes to perform gap analysis and necessary implementation of rules

  • Support the regional FRM teams in review and drafting of legal entity specific policies and procedures

  • Ensure timely compliance with internal and external deadlines in relation to regulatory reporting, policies and stress testing

  • Engage with FRM teams in other regions to ensure alignment in practices

  • Participate in regional risk committees including oversight of materials, actions and minutes

  • Undertake ad-hoc assignments in support of the CRO and COO priorities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in risk management with an international bank. Preference for individuals with Market or Credit Risk coverage experience

  • Solid PowerPoint and Excel skills and active adopters of AI tools

  • Confidence to take ideas forward and to challenge others, where appropriate

  • Able to effectively communicate and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, both in written and verbally

  • Able to tackle new assignments and take initiative independently

  • Attention to detail and able to distil technical information to produce concise and effective presentations

  • An interest in working in a fast-paced environment, often balancing multiple deliverables
