We’re seeking someone to join our CDRR team as a Senior Python Developer, in Technology Risk. Candidate with strong experience in building scalable, data‑intensive systems and working with cybersecurity datasets. The ideal candidate brings expertise across backend engineering, modern UI frameworks, cloud platforms, and data processing technologies. This role requires strong ownership, problem‑solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.

CDRR mission is to deliver first-line defences to manage Cyber and Fraud risks to Morgan Stanley’s technology, operations and information through risk identification, control management and assurance. This allows the business to operate and grow in a secure and legally compliant manner. The team’s vision is to deliver programs that protect and enable the business, ensure secure delivery of services to clients, adjust to address the risks presented by an evolving threat landscape and meet regulatory expectations.

In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities. This is a Lead Software Engineer position at Vice President Level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintains software solutions that support business needs.

What you’ll do in the role:

  • Design and develop robust Python applications using Django, Flask, or FastAPI, ensuring scalable architecture, maintainability, and high performance.
  • Build and optimize RESTful APIs and microservices that integrate seamlessly across systems with strong reliability and security.
  • Work extensively with cybersecurity datasets, SIEM logs, and other security telemetry to build scalable data pipelines for processing, enriching, and correlating large volumes of data.
  • Develop efficient data models and workflows using PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Neo4J, and other platforms, ensuring optimized data storage and retrieval.
  • Contribute to front‑end development using Angular and help build intuitive, high‑performance visualizations for complex and large datasets.
  • Automate workflows using Airflow and apply policy‑driven access controls with OPA to maintain consistent security and compliance.
  • Ensure high engineering standards through secure development practices, code reviews, performance optimization, and continuous quality improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, product owners, and cross‑functional engineering teams to clarify requirements and deliver well‑designed solutions.
  • Take complete ownership of deliverables with accountability for timelines, quality, communication, and end‑to‑end execution.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • 8–12 years of hands‑on experience in Python development.
  • At least 6 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, software architecture, and data modeling.
  • Proficiency in Python frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
  • Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and backend best practices.
  • Experience with Graph Databases (Neo4J), Snowflake, OPA, and Airflow.
  • Expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases including PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Neo4J, or similar.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and a delivery‑focused mindset.

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to Angular or other modern UI frameworks.
  • Experience with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience working with cybersecurity datasets, SIEM tools, and logging pipelines.
  • Experience visualizing high‑volume datasets efficiently and interactively.
