Prime Brokerage Custody Technology Lead

Technology Lead for high performance engineering teams to deliver on the multi-year renovation of the platform used to manage Custody functions for Prime Brokerage Business. This role provides the unique opportunity of leading initiatives to build next generation platform while partnering with business on process efficiency.

The applicant should be a superior technologist, with strong design fundamentals and experience in leading implementation of trade processing platforms or other similar applications in Financial Services Industry. Prior experience in Hedge Fund industry will be preferred, however, the ability and willingness to master new technical and business concepts will be considered.

Business Overview

Prime Brokerage is a comprehensive suite of services offered by Morgan Stanley, primarily to hedge funds and other asset managers. These services are designed to support the complex needs of these clients, providing them with the tools and resources necessary to manage their investments effectively.

A prime broker's custody function involves holding and safeguarding a client's investment assets, such as securities, in physical or electronic form. Beyond mere safekeeping, this role includes administering assets, which entails processing corporate actions like dividends, stock splits, and rights issues, as well as settling trades and maintaining accurate records of positions and valuations. The goal is to provide a secure, integrated service that also facilitates the prime broker's core activities like margin lending and short selling.

About the Team

We provide an award-winning platform to Morgan Stanley’s Prime Brokerage business and to its hedge fund clients, who borrow cash and securities from the Firm to execute their investment strategies. Some of our solutions are also leveraged by other businesses within the Firm’s Institutional Securities Group (ISG).

  • Java / spring - Strong experience in developing large scale distributed platforms using Java / Spring.

  • Strong experience in implementing high availability, high throughput applications

  • Prior experience of leading large scale programs managing delivery as well as senior stakeholders

  • Experience of managing developers and engineering managers

  • Strong design skills for building scalable systems

  • Test and Behavior Driven Development in agile setup

  • Strong inclination to learn the business domain and partner with global stakeholders in supporting the technology platform and the business
