Department Profile

The Fixed Income Division is comprised of Interest Rate and Currency Products, Credit Products and Distribution. Professionals in the Division assess and actively manage risk, trade securities, and structure as well as execute innovative transactions in the fast-paced and constantly changing global markets.

Background on the Team

The Fixed Income Data Strategy team partners with trading, strats and technology to deliver high-quality, scalable and innovative data solutions. The team is at the forefront of applying advanced analytics, machine learning and generative AI to transform data into actionable insights and client facing products.

Primary Responsibilities

Morgan Stanley is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled individual to join the Fixed Income Data Strat team as an Associate/Senior Associate Quant (2-4 years of experience). This role is ideal for candidates with a strong quantitative foundation, who combine a deep interest in applying Machine Learning and Generative AI in a front-office environment with an interest in building strategic infrastructure.

Responsibilities

This role is part of the Data Strat team, and will focus on the following areas:

  • Apply Machine Learning and Generative AI techniques to automate workflows and streamline how users interact with data and analytics.
  • Contribute to the design and development of Generative AI solutions, including multi-agent architectures, to enhance data accessibility across the Fixed Income business.
  • Apply Large Language Models (LLMs), and advanced deep learning techniques to build intelligent systems capable of answering complex business queries and providing contextual insights on large-scale datasets.
  • Partner with technology teams to build an integrated data platform supporting data pipelines, catalogues and analytics to support all sales and trading.
  • Contribute to the creation and documentation of high-quality datasets both for analysis as well as selling to clients.
  • Collaborate with Fixed Income trading desks to design AI-enabled solutions.

Skills desired Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Sciences
  • Master's degree in Financial Engineering, Computational Engineering, or a related field of study( Math / Physics / Computer Science ) is a plus.

Required Qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of Machine Learning concepts and practical experience applying them to real-world problems. Exposure to Generative AI models and their applications in finance.
  • Practical knowledge of machine learning techniques and exposure to natural language processing (NLP) concepts.
  • Strong programming skills in Python. Knowledge of Q/KDB and/or Scala is a definite plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a front-office quant or strat role within an investment bank or asset manager.
  • Knowledge of Fixed Income products, markets, and trading dynamics.
  • Experience working with Generative AI and LLMs, including techniques such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt engineering and model fine-tuning.
  • Demonstrable experience of writing testable code in a financial setting is ideal.
