The Corporate External and Legal Affairs (CELA) Energy, Connectivity & Sustainability (ECS) team coordinates overall science-based, measurable, and scalable sustainability investments and outcomes across the company – engaging with business groups to set goals related to reductions in the environmental impacts of business operations and positive environmental outcomes resulting from technology and policy development. Microsoft has developed a sophisticated data platform to support monitoring and reporting on its environmental commitments. The Software Engineer, Sustainability will shape the evolution of critical environmental digital transformation processes leveraging Power Platform & Azure technologies to scale application development and minimize manual tasks. Experience as a business owner working directly with business teams for gathering requirements and creating usable user interfaces is required. This position requires leveraging technology to simplify and improve business processes. You need to have a strong understanding of translating complex business processes into automated solutions using Power Platform and other Azure services. You would be required to have extensive cross-group coordination across hierarchies, the ability to synthesize complex business problems and devise and execute plans which address big challenges and opportunities in the environmental sustainability space.

Responsibilities:

Driving Digital Transformation:

• Design, develop and deploy solutions using full stack features using React, Power Platform REST API and other Azure services to further the digital transformation initiatives, reducing the manual tasks and streamline business processes
• Work with stakeholders to understand the business requirements and leverage a variety of feedback channels to incorporate into feature design and solutions.
• Maintain the current assets and troubleshoot and resolve issues to ensure continuous improvement and efficiency
• Create user-friendly solutions to enable teams to manage and navigate the processes seamlessly Scalability, Security and Compliance
• Ensure that all solutions are scalable, maintainable and aligned with the organizational goals and standards.
• Implement all data security measures and governance and that the security measures are integrated into the development process from the very beginning.
• Comprehensive expertise in the DevOps lifecycle, with a strong commitment to code quality and deployment ownership.

Qualifications:

Required/minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft SQL Server, React, REST API, C#, JavaScript, Azure Data Lake and Azure SynapseOR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

• Enterprise experience designing and deploying holistic reporting solutions; sustainability accounting experience, including GHG, SASB, GRI and TCFD standards preferred.
• Familiarity or experience in any of the following fields is preferred: circular economy, sustainability target setting, carbon accounting, sustainable finance, ESG due diligence, climate scenario analysis, and / or ESG governance.
• SASB FSA certification or similar preferred
• Self-directed, motivated, creative, adaptable, unquestionable ethics and integrity, bias toward data-based decision making and a willingness to take calculated risks.
• Understanding of global sustainability related policies, regulations, standards, and literature preferred

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
