The Microsoft Devices Safety and Energy Efficiency Compliance team partners with consumer product hardware development organizations across Microsoft, providing guidance and oversight during the design, validation, and mass production of devices, making sure our products are safe, and meet or exceed all applicable regulatory safety requirements.
As a Safety & Energy Efficiency Compliance Engineer you will be part program manager, part design advisor, and part product safety evangelist. You will partner with Microsoft development teams and OEMs, guiding them on safety compliance, energy efficiency regulations, testing, and labeling, to ensure that new products meet all requirements throughout the world. This opportunity will allow you to expand your experience in regulatory safety management or develop new skills after having spent some time in areas like consumer electronics design, safety and energy testing, or product certification management. You will be based in Taipei, Taiwan and will have flexibility to work from home or in the office. Occasional domestic and international travel might be required (15%).

Responsibilities
- Support multiple hardware development teams, from planning through mass production, with respect to safety compliance and energy efficiency requirements, testing, and labeling, to ensure that all products meet such requirements throughout the world
- Work with suppliers (OEMs) to make sure that they obtain and maintain safety and energy regulatory compliance certifications in all markets
- Review of supplier safety and energy reports
- Conduct validation testing at in-house lab
- Interface with third-party testing labs and government certification agencies to assist in the certification process
- Represent Product Safety in design and gate reviews with development leads and project teams
- Provide accurate communication, project status updates and reporting across teams throughout the product development process
- Maintain knowledge of applicable regulations and their upcoming changes, alerting relevant stakeholders inside Microsoft of their potential impact.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of proven experience with safety compliance programs (consumer electronics preferred) in design or manufacturing settings.
- Hands-on experience working in electronics testing lab performing validation work.
- Familiarity with consumer electronics manufacturing (CM and ODM) and associated auditing tasks.
- Familiarity with the following safety standards: IEC 62133, IEC 62368-1, ISO 17025, UL 1642 and UL 2054.
- Demonstrated strong project and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to seamlessly work across groups and at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with development tracking platforms like JIRA, JAMA, Azure DevOps, as well as reporting tools like PowerBI.
- Familiarity with energy efficiency programs.
- Experience with ISO-based quality management systems (ISO 9001, 10377) and Certification Body Testing Laboratory accreditations.
