**Active Directory (AD)**powers identity for millions of servers and devices worldwide. As a Principal Product Manager, you will lead the next chapter of AD—secure by default, resilient by design, and effortless to manage across hybrid environments. You will set strategy, drive cross‑organization execution, and deliver innovations that modernize identity administration with the help of data and AI.
This role is part of the Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) organization, which ensures Windows and Windows Server remain secure, reliable, and continuously improving for billions of devices globally. - Responsibilities- Responsible for the AD product strategy, roadmap and overall product management across Windows Server releases and servicing trains; align funding and OKRs across partner teams.
- Use telemetry and customer insights to prioritize investments; publish clear decision records and success metrics.
- Identify and prioritize new Active Directory Scenarios that improve security, cloud migration, update, and upgrade capabilities.
- Build alignment across Server, Security, Entra, Customer Support Services (CSS), and field teams; maintain crisp executive communication.
- Manage schedules, risks, and issues with effective communication to the team, to senior management and company executives, and partners inside and outside Microsoft.
- Demonstrate curiosity and experimentation with AI tools to improve product decisions, customer insights, and operational efficiency.
- Drive an AI‑first mindset—identify opportunities to embed AI in workflows, diagnostics, and customer experiences.
- Foster inclusive culture and coach PMs to raise the bar on product craft and customer empathy.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software developmentOR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:-Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8+ years of product management (or equivalent) experience owning the end‑to‑end delivery of enterprise platform or infrastructure products. (e.g., design, addressing product market fit, and launch, internal tool/framework).
- 6+ years experience improving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience in a market (e.g., growing customer base, expanding customer usage, avoiding customer churn).
- Deep technical fluency in identity & Windows Server—Active Directory (AD DS), domain/forest topology, replication, group policy, Kerberos/NTLM, LDAP/LDAPS.
- Familiarity with hybrid identity patterns and cloud/edge administration scenarios
- Experience leveraging AI for ideation, analysis, workflow optimization, and integration into enterprise product scenarios
- Proven ability to lead teams through critical situations, operate in fast shipping cycles, and apply working knowledge of software development processes, data workflows, and IT operations.
- MBA or equivalent business/strategy experience a plus.

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
