Overview
Microsoft’s Business Planning organization directs our commercial portfolio’s pricing, packaging, and monetization strategies. Few organizations exist that have such a direct impact on how Microsoft goes to market, which reverberates across the entire industry. Within Business Planning, the New Commerce and Commercial Strategy organization works across Cloud & AI Platforms, AI Business Solutions (M365) and Security driving cross-cloud monetization strategies for how and where customers buy. This includes re-defining the strategy for Microsoft’s commerce experiences, channel business models, product licensing and use rights, and support in the era of AI.
As a Sr. Business Planner in the New Commerce and Commercial Strategy, you will have the high-visibility opportunity to own strategic initiatives that enable our broader business needs and increased competitiveness. You will be responsible for providing thought leadership and driving executive alignment across Business Planning, Product Marketing, Finance and Engineering.
The high impact role will be focused on the next evolution of the modern cloud and AI aligned purchase experience and business models. You will own the vision of the customer journey from discovery to commitment, ensuring it is intentionally connected to drive adoption, reduce friction, and accelerate durable revenue growth. You will own creating strategies that ensure that we are optimizing monetization of customer usage. To bring this vision to life, you will also lead cross-functional planning and execution of scalable, standardized commerce and go-to-market constructs, partnering with product, engineering, sales, and finance to align business models with modern commerce capabilities.

Responsibilities:
- Own and land the vision for the next evolution of the customer purchase journey in the era of AI + Cloud.
- Drive cross-functional executive alignment to solidify a business vision, aligning priorities, and translating the strategy into business requirements.
- Influence and execute the approach to bring a strategy to life through roadmap and change management planning and developing content that synthesizes details into an effective story that can be used across the organization.
- Be a strategic thinker, leveraging the ability to learn to understand and connect complex business models quickly.
- Leverage compelling storytelling skills to present to and influence.

Qualifications:
Required/minimum qualifications
- 5+ years product management, strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, or related experience OR equivalent experience.
Additional or preferred qualifications- 8+ years product management, strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, or related experience AND Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Computer Science, Economics, Business, or related field - OR 6+ years product management, strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, or related experience AND Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), or related field OR equivalent experience.
- Proven experience working with Commerce systems
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and the ability to understand and connect complex business models.
- Experience with structured and analytical approach to problem-solving with the ability to utilize data.
- Track record of engaging with cross-functional stakeholders to gain credibility and partnership quickly.
- Compelling storytelling skills with executive presence and ability to influence at senior levels.
Business Planning IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $106,400 - $203,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $137,600 - $222,600 per year.
