Overview
Learning new skills has never been more important to career growth. Within the Short Form Skilling team, we’re helping learners build skills faster with short video and digital content, built to meet the needs of all learner audiences—from developers to CXOs to marketers and more. We’re focused on reaching new learners to help them thrive with the AI skills of the future, while driving business growth by expanding Microsoft’s presence among workforce audiences.
Responsibilities:
As the Sr Director, Audience Insights, you will lead the strategy and execution of workforce skilling through short, engaging content. You’ll take a leadership role in defining how our learning product, AI Skills Navigator, attracts, engages, and retains specific learner audiences. You’ll lead a team that translates learner needs and behaviors into clear content priorities and channel recommendations, which will be activated across learning channels.
In this role, you will be responsible for the following:
- Lead strategy for audience insights – Establish the audience insights strategy, including how we define audiences, and segment learners. You’ll work with your team to define the most important skills using the jobs to be done framework, validating this through expert interviews, commissioned research, and internal documentation. You’ll share these insights across the organization to help the entire organization better understand the learning needs of audiences.
- Lead a team of high-performing audience insights leads – Establish the team’s priorities, vision, and success metrics to create clear, cohesive team goals. Define the operational rhythms, communication mechanisms, operating templates, and cadences required to communicate and learn effectively within the broader learning organization and across Microsoft.
- Optimize our learning product, AI Skills Navigator, for the audience experience – Own the audience-specific content strategy and develop key insights to acquire net-new learners by identifying the highest-impact audiences, entry points, and learning content. Use experimental design and funnel analysis to understand effective learning paths, modalities, and entry points, and to optimize the learner experience.
- Increase learner engagement within the product – Take responsibility for understanding and improving learner engagement signals (e.g., return frequency, depth of consumption, follows/subscriptions, and progression) within our learning product. Develop insight-backed hypotheses for increasing participation and retention, and define success metrics to track and optimize engagement and downstream product adoption.
- Engage learners with short-form content – Identify the learner needs and moments best served by short-form content and guide a test-and-learn approach to formats, topics, and creativity that drive comprehension and action. Provide insight-based recommendations on content packaging, sequencing, and calls-to-action so short-form content reliably moves learners into deeper product experiences, and eventually product usage.
- Activate content across channels and product – Partner with marketing, social, lifecycle, and product teams to bring audience content to learners effectively across owned and paid channels as well as in-product surfaces. Define channel-specific insight and measurement requirements, and use performance learnings to optimize targeting, messaging, and content distribution.
