Meta is looking for a tenured policy leader to join our Core Policy team. This role works on issues that may not be clearly defined and requires strategy, direction, analysis of situations and conceptual thinking experience in policy, government, business operations, or law. The team's mission is to create and communicate rules for our products that empower expression and foster a safe environment for people on Meta's family of apps. You will work closely with a number of other teams at Meta, including our Operations, Product, Legal, Communications, and Public Policy teams. You will play a key role in developing, applying, and communicating our Community Standards both internally and externally. You will also manage high-profile content escalations and be a lead point of contact for policy questions in the U.S. for the Core Policy Team. At times, you will be expected to make difficult decisions under pressure about whether to allow or remove content. Successful candidates will be execution-minded professionals who can think strategically, adapt quickly, work independently, and rapidly earn credibility and trust within all levels of the organization. They will critically analyze and communicate the costs and benefits of refinements to policies and their implementation. Candidates should be passionate about the services we provide and the people that we serve. Given the demands of content-related escalations, the candidate will be expected to work irregular hours, including early mornings, late nights, or weekends.
Public Policy Manager, Content Responsibilities:
- Help craft and implement content policies that take into consideration the needs of a global community
- Collaborate with Policy, Product, Operations, Communications, and external stakeholders to drive policy improvements
- Act as a global escalation point of contact, staff on-call shifts, and manage internal communications for policy issues
- Help articulate policy philosophy, launches, and changes to relevant parties, including management, operations, and other internal and external stakeholders
- Build relationships with and understand the perspectives of partners on internal teams, such as Public Policy, Communications, Operations, Product, and Legal
- This role may involve exposure to potentially graphic and/or objectionable content such as explicit images, videos, audio, and text, offensive or derogatory language, self-injury, animal abuse, and other content that may be considered offensive or disturbing
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- 10+ years experience in policy, government, project management, law, or operations
- Demonstrated analytical-thinking and problem-solving experience
- Experience communicating cross-functionally, particularly in the area of consensus-building and persuasion
- Willingness to work with potentially graphic and objectionable content
- Experience dealing with escalations
Preferred Qualifications:
- 12+ years of experience in policy and a law degree, MBA, MPP, or other advanced degree
- Knowledge of Meta products and principles
- Experience in or with the technology industry
- Proficiency in crafting formal policy documentation for a wide-ranging audience
- Content policy experience
