A Day in the Life

• Medtronic’s Diabetes Operating Unit is seeking a Senior Principal Legal Counsel
• Employment Law to join its high-impact Legal team. In this role, you will provide legal advice, counsel and training to leadership on topics including, but not limited to, employment, discrimination, retaliation and harassment legal issues, as well as non-competition, workplace investigations, agency and regulatory actions, charges, mediations, and dispute resolution. This position will report to the Chief Litigation Counsel.
  This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of the Diabetes Mini Med business during a pivotal time in its history. As the business prepares for its separation, this position will play a critical role in building the legal, human resources, employee relations and governance foundation for a successful, independent company. Working closely with the HR team, cross-functional leaders and executive management, you’ll have the chance to work on high-impact, transformational projects while contributing to the company’s long-term success.

Medtronic has announced its intention to separate the Diabetes division to promote future growth and innovation within the business and reallocate investments and resources across Medtronic, subject to applicable information and consultation requirements. This role requires you to spend some time in Northridge, CA

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

• Advise and counsel business clients and management on legal issues related to employment law, workplace conduct and employee relations.
• Identify and manage internal and external legal resources as required to provide high-quality legal services at a reasonable cost.
• Supervise paralegal and administrative support personnel.
• Negotiate and prepare comprehensive contracts and agreements.
• Partner closely with HR teams and provide legal advice related to labor and employment issues, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, workplace investigations, employment-related agreements (including change in control agreements, severance agreements, retention agreements, employment agreements, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements), labor issues, labor and employment litigation, employee discipline, wrongful termination, employee drug testing and background checks, employee rights, employment at will, immigration compliance (including E-Verify), wage/hour, compensation and bonus plans, leave of absence laws, reductions in force and restructures, WARN, outsourcing, human resources policies, employment law aspects of mergers and acquisitions, and affirmative action.
• Investigate and respond to all labor and employment complaints filed by employees or former employees, including charges filed with the EEOC, NLRB, DOL and corresponding state agencies.
• Oversee affirmative action compliance and responses to OFCCP audits and reviews.

MUST HAVE: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Juris Doctor with strong academic credentials from nationally recognized law school and experience with California employment law
• 8+ years legal practice in employment law
• 3+ years law firm or government experience litigating in employment law

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$190,400.00 - $285,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
