Overview:
Mastercard Japan is looking for a Director – Business Development and Account Management to lead the strategic growth of the MPMS and Multi-currency business by levergaing Mastercard’s strong brand, technology, operations and risk platforms to deliver bottom line results to Mastercard and our partners. This includes optimising existing business and identifying new initiatives via the development of strategic and operational plans, as well as execution of these to ensure business and financial objectives are achieved.
The individual must work cross functionally with various teams, including Sales, Product, Marketing, Treasury, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Delivery and Operations to help the selling success and ensure customer satisfaction.
The individual will need to have personal ambition and drive and be able to work independently to skilfully manage all components of the business. They will require an in-depth knowledge of the cards / payments business, relationship and stakeholder management and be able to develop trust and credibility with peers, internal and external stakeholders as well as being able to integrate effectively in the One Mastercard ethos.
Role
In this client-facing position, you will:
- Develop strategic and tactical plans, as well as the execution of these to ensure business and financial objectives are achieved.
- Manage key customer accounts
- Track the MPMS and multi-currency business performance vs. budget including managing bottom-up planning, opportunities and risks
- Set strategic direction for MPMS and Multi-currency programs for the Japan market, including recovery strategies for under-performance
- Identify MPMS and Multi-currency opportunities and initiatives to grow future Mastercard (& Customer) revenue and share.
- Build and maintain strong, client relationships across all levels.
- Cross-sell relevant Mastercard solutions, as appropriate
- Negotiate, execute and manage the customer contract agrement process ensuring global linkage of resources and information sharing.
- Negotiate, execute and manage key vendor realtionships including issuers, that are based in Japan
- Oversee and liase with key internal cross-functional teams to ensure key business outcomes and effecitive project implementations. This includes holding internal teams to account to maintian superior customer service levels and operational excellence.

- Proficiency in Japanese and English

- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills to manage complex internal and external relationships
- Ability to develop trust and credibility with peers, internal and external stakeholders
- Confident, proactive personality with demonstrated persistence in resolving issues
- Excellent strategic thinking and a proven track record of identifying opportunities that increase revenue.
- Proven work experience as an Account Lead, Key Account Manager or relevant role.
- Experienced in cards / payments business with understanding of multi-currency prepaid and FX solutions
- Demonstrate ability to present and influence key stakeholders at all levels of an organization
- Demonstrate proven ability and successfully implement quantifiable business plans
- The role requires the skill set to work in a rapidly changing and developing environment
