About the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize, develop, and administer physical therapy services in accordance with current applicable Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines and regulations and established policies and procedures as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure that the highest degree of quality care and safety can be maintained.

You are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate each patient, establish treatment plan and goals in cooperation with referring physician and patient
  • Directly administer treatment to patient or supervise treatments by department personnel
  • Review department policies, procedures, manuals, job descriptions, etc., at least annually
  • Maintain treatment records, progress notes and statistics as required
  • Represent the facility and participate in meetings as directed
  • Ensure Rehab receptionist receives charges for physical therapy rendered to patients
  • Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc. to keep abreast of current changes in the health care field as well as to maintain professional status
  • Evaluate and treat all age groups including pediatrics, adolescents, adult and geriatrics
  • Assume supervision responsibilities of Physical Therapy Manager as delegated by Physical Therapy Manager
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and patient rights at all times
  • Remain alert for patient safety at all times
  • Continually monitor the condition of equipment
  • Communicate patient status, goals and treatment plan with other relevant disciplines and staff members
  • Demonstrate competence in basic knowledge and direct clinical skills
  • Evaluate for age-appropriate behavior, motor skills and physiological norms
  • Recognize patients' psychological development and modify approaches accordingly
  • Recognize potential lifestyle changes resulting from illness that will interfere with the discharge plan and develop plan accordingly
  • Identify increased physical/emotional dependency needs and evaluate availability of support system
  • Conduct age-appropriate interview/communication techniques
  • Assess patients for signs and symptoms of abuse/neglect and refer to appropriate personnel and/or community agency

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Physical Therapist with MA license

Experience:

  • Must have, as minimum, experience as a therapist in a hospital, SNF or other related medical facility
  • Must have training in rehabilitation and restorative therapy practices
