Job Summary

. OVERVIEW: The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses with evaluation, management, and treatment of patients during office visits and other tasks related to the visit consistent with his / her training and skills. His / her primary roles are to assure efficient patient flow through the office; to maintain neat, clean, and safe patient care areas, and to promote patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their needs. REPORTS TO: Practice Manager PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.0 Assures efficient patient flow through the office 1.1 Assures patient Medical Record is complete prior to the visit 1.2 Greets patient in waiting room and escorts to exam room 1.3 Instructs patient how to prepare for the physician or nurse practitioner (assisting as necessary) 1.4 Anticipates / sets up special equipment and/or supplies needed for the visit 1.5 Alerts the physician or nurse practitioner when patient is ready and communicates pertinent clinical information 1.6 Cleans and prepares room for next patient 1.7 Responds to needs to expedite visits and keep on schedule 1.8 Assists the physician or nurse practitioner with patient care during the visit. 1.9 Adheres to hand hygiene and standard precaution guidelines 2.0 Provides care appropriate to age group of patients in practice setting and documents data per practice protocols 2.1 Assists physician or nurse practitioner with patient examination, procedures, and treatments as directed 2.2 Performs other tests, procedures, and treatments as directed - stool guiac testing

  • LBT testing 2.3 Documents testing / results per practice protocols. 2.4 Performs designated tasks related to tracking test results and may communicate normal test results to patients as directed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or nurse 2.5 Receives patient messages, reviews these with physicians, nurse practitioners or nurses per practice protocols, and takes action as directed 2.6 Maintains neat, clean, and safe exam rooms and treatment areas. 2.7Assures patient care areas are neat, clean, professional-looking 2.8 Assures exam and treatment rooms are properly stocked, equipped, and secured as applicable 2.9 Assures all equipment is in good working order 3.0 Cleans equipment after patient use per office protocols 3.1 Promotes patient / customer satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their needs 3.2 Adheres to Human Resource policies with respect to attendance and dress code 3.3 Adheres to MGH customer service philosophy in all patient interactions 3.4 Communicates appropriately and effectively with patients 3.5 Functions as an integral part of the patient care team 3.6 Interacts in a professional, cooperative way with other practice staff 3.7 Accepts delegate responsibilities in apositive manner 3.8 Before leaving the practice on breaks / lunch makes sure adequate coverage is available 3.9 Engages in constructive problem solving with others in the practice as problems arise 4.0 Function as a Patient Service Coordinator, cover front desk, answer phones 4.1 Process letters of medical necessity

Qualifications
