A position is available for laboratory research technician at the Serrano-Pozo Lab within the Alzheimer's Research Unit of the Mass General Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease (MIND). The main focus of the lab is studying the role of astrocytes in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and, to decipher this role, our group uses an array of model systems, including cell and mouse models as well human postmortem brain samples.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and eager to learn individual with a strong work ethic. The future technician will be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and preparing samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data. The technician will be trained in mouse handling and procedures (including maintenance of a mouse colony), cell culture, protein analysis (Western blot, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry), microscopy and image analysis, among other techniques. The technician will be responsible for ordering supplies, maintaining lab operations, documenting experiments in an electronic notebook in a timely fashion, preparing presentations to report experimental progress. The candidate is expected to work both independently and as a team member with postdocs and students within the Serrano-Pozo Lab, as well as with other groups. The technician will report directly to Dr. Alberto Serrano-Pozo, M.D. Ph.D.

Essential Functions
-Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.
-Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.
-Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.
-Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.
-Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.
-Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.
