Job Summary

Responsible for providing technical and operational assistance during surgical procedures and other medical interventions by ensuring the availability and proper functioning of anesthesia equipment and supplies, preparing and maintaining the operating room environment, and assisting in the delivery of safe and effective anesthesia care.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure anesthesia carts are supplied and machines are in each room prior to the beginning of the surgery schedule and between procedures
  • Check and replace anesthesia gas tanks as needed
  • Retrieve special anesthesia supplies that are anticipated and/or requested by the person administering the anesthetic before and during surgery
  • Prepare complex equipment and supplies for hemodynamic monitoring
  • Ensure monitoring equipment and supplies are ready
  • Ensure the anesthesia machine is ready for use including troubleshooting and correcting problems
  • Perform daily anesthesia equipment inspections including suction, electrical plugs, gas connections, oxygen and nitrous oxide cylinders

Customer Service Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support to the OR Nursing team via direct support to Service Line Coordinator team
  • Responsible for the effective transport of sterile instruments and supplies needed to support OR cases
  • Assist in the fulfillment of priority inventory requests by efficiently retrieving items and delivering them to appropriate drop off locations
  • Use SPM to ensure the accuracy of the needs list by scanning items to intended case cart and/or Operating Room
  • Adjust any updated case information as necessary
  • Capable of working within a matrix team environment, demonstrates initiative and the ability to prioritize workloads under stressful and changing situations
  • Develop working knowledge of instruments, soft goods, and specialty supplies for all services
  • Utilize product knowledge and SPM to offer substitute products when requested products are unavailable
  • Locate and provide specialty supplies and specialty instrumentations for any service
  • Follow the Failed Device Workflow to transport and document devices failures in the Operating Room
  • Scan out products from Mobile Aspects Cabinets when appropriate
  • Assist in the management of Emergency Cart contents by auditing for completeness, verifying locks and logging compliance as directed

Supply Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supply procurement, including tissue and implants and ensuring inventory levels are maintained
  • Assist with de-casing orders in breakdown areas, removing all cardboard to preserve a clean environment
  • Handle and distribute supplies safely to maintain sterile product integrity
  • Responsible for the stocking of assigned non-specialty supplies and inventory items in designated supply locations
  • Replenish supply locations using FIFO (First In, First Out-rotational) procedure to avoid stockpiling and ensure sterility of product
  • Consistently check for outdates and remove expired products from supply locations
  • Gather unused sterile supplies and return them to their designated stock locations
  • Monitor overstock storage areas and restock depleted stock locations accordingly
  • Maintain overall tidiness, cleanliness, and good order in supply locations; ensure items are properly shelved
  • On a periodic basis and as requested, clean storage bins and shelves to maintain dust-free environment
  • Maintain flow and cleanliness of elevator lobbies in a neat and clean manner with minimal inventory storage
  • Work closely with Environmental Services to ensure waste, pallets and skids are clear of all egress
  • Provide support to end users and staff members regarding product location, delivery and returns as requested

Case Pick Responsibilities

  • Collect sterile supplies in specific quantities as specified by the patient-specific Preference Card, inspecting each product for expiration and package integrity
  • Collect sterile instrument sets and peel packs in specific quantities as specified by the patient-specific Preference Card, inspecting each product for indications of appropriate sterilization and package integrity including wrap and sterilization tape integrity, and presence of external locks
  • Select empty Case Carts that are appropriate for the amount of sterile product needed and ensure the Case Cart is clean and free of soil and debris
  • Using SPM, build Case Carts for assigned surgical cases
  • Scan all instruments and supplies to the Case Cart
  • Scan the Case Cart to appropriate Operating Room and/or storage locations
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Experience in lieu of degree: No

Licenses and Credentials:

  • Basic Life Support BLS Certification
  • Data Conversion
  • Various Issuers preferred
  • Certified Anesthesia Technician Cer.A.T - American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians preferred

Experience:

  • Medical Office/Hospital/Managed Care Experience: 1-2 years required
  • Anesthesia Experience: 0-1 year preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of anesthesia equipment, monitors, and supplies commonly used in surgical and procedural settings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with the anesthesia care team and other healthcare professionals
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask, and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology, pharmacology, and patient monitoring techniques
  • Proficiency in using computerized systems and medical record software
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift and move heavy equipment and assist in patient positioning, as required
