Job Summary

Summary

Supports the organization's mission, vision and values by exhibiting the following behaviors: Excellence in maintaining a clean safe, orderly and attractive environment, throughout all Hospital departments, patient areas, and all support areas, including hospital controlled areas. Also performs discharge cleaning as needed. Responsible as a member of the healthcare team for daily communication and interaction with our customers (Nursing, Unit Coordinators, Practice Administrators,
patients, public, etc.)

Essential Functions

Leadership
• In conjunction with the supervisor, schedules and assigns duties for the shift ensuring work is performed according to quality standards.
• Ability to help train new employees.
• Assists supervisor in the scheduling of time-off of ESD employees.
• Maintains quality activities in assigned areas.
• Performs other work requiring equal skill, effort and responsibility as directed.
• May perform work of a higher level in preparation for increased responsibility.


-Physical Demands: Responsibilities of a Lead Housekeeper requires physical demands; ability to stand for long periods of time, bending and stooping and lifting.
-Performs the 8 steps cleaning procedures, daily cleaning, discharge cleaning, bed making, wall spotting, toilet cleaning, high and low dusting, O.R. terminal cleaning.
-Works in a professional and safe manner. Always uses cautions signs and cones.
-Completes work from previous shift if needed, reports all incomplete assignment and maintenance issues.
-Cleans up all organic body waste, i.e. blood and body fluids, feces, sputum etc. as instructed by the supervisor or team leader.
-Hangs cubical curtains, shower curtains and window curtains.
-Up on discharge cleaning, disinfect and/or sanitize I.V. poles, pumps and other patient equipment.
-Ability to learn and to demonstrate new procedures related to the health care industry.
-Performs the following floor and carpet care techniques: carpet bonneting and extracting, spray buffing, burnishing, scrub & recoat, stripping and refinishing.

-Collects solid and contaminated waste.
-Delivers solid waste to the compacting area.
-Inspects equipment daily to maintain it in clean conditions and in good repair.
-Assumes responsibility for the quality standard in his/her area.
-Maintains good public relations with all patients, facility and staff personnel.

-Has the ability to retrain Environmental Services personnel, as directed by the Environmental Services Management.

-Participates in departmental training and activities and meetings.

-Participates in quality assurance processes.

-Inspects areas as assigned by ESD management to ensure that it meets established standards.
-In conjunction with the supervisor, schedules and assigns duties for the shift ensuring work is performed according to quality standards.
-Trains new employees.
-Assists supervisor in the scheduling of time-off environmental employees.

-Maintains quality activities in assigned areas.

-Monitors employees’ adherence to the computerized dispatch procedures.


 

Qualifications

Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Experience Experience in customer services as well as floor and carpet care 3-5 years required Previos Lead experience preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to read, write and communicate in English, and understand basic medical terminology. - Must have the ability to follow standard procedures using his/her own discretion and be able to understand the needs of patients and react appropriately, and with sensitivity. - The ability to cooperate with all members of the healthcare team. - Position requires good judgment. - Staff adheres to all I C.A.R.E. Standards. - Requires manual dexterity and ability to stand for long periods of time. - Performs all Environmental Services related tasks and demonstrates ability to follow department guidelines related to the work. - Performs basic and heavier cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and using prescribed methods. - Performs all environmental services tasks demonstrating services orientation to fellow employees, staff and patients. - Cleans patient equipment as requested by supervisor including beds and all room furnishings. - Assists in manpower support for office and/or related moves, special conference room set-ups and any other occasions as required. - Competent in using the proper chemicals for the proper tasks. - Ability to perform cleaning of emergency spills when observed and/or up on request. - In case of community disaster, assist nursing in making up extra beds and other duties as assigned.
