Job Summary
Summary:
Responsible for the daily operations of the laboratory, including staffing, workflow, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Provides both operational leadership and strategic direction across multiple laboratory sites. Ensures adherence to all applicable federal, state, and accreditation requirements. This role requires strong leadership skills and a collaborative approach when working with local and system-wide leaders. This is an on-site position with rotation between sites based on operational needs.

Essential Functions
Develop and maintain quality assurance (QA) systems to ensure high performance and implement corrective actions when performance standards are not met.
Review performance data, identify opportunities for improvement, and address root causes of suboptimal outcomes.
Evaluate event management reports, investigate complaints or operational issues, and analyze data to identify trends and patterns.
Ensure validation protocols and summaries are completed for all new or modified processes.
Assign, monitor, and supervise staff to ensure compliance with laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and all federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including health, safety, and patient confidentiality.
Ensure the laboratory is prepared for regulatory reviews and inspections (e.g., TJC, CAP, FACT).
Oversee the coordination of clinical trials in collaboration with principal investigators, study coordinators, quality assurance, and compliance teams.
Manage laboratory information systems to access clinical results, generate worksheets, and support data collection and analysis activities.
Conduct interviews and recommend candidates for hire in accordance with departmental policies to maintain appropriate staffing levels.
Oversee staff orientation, training, competency assessments, and continuing education, including required departmental training (e.g., safety, infection control, compliance).
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's Degree Laboratory Sciences required or Master's Degree Related Field of Study preferred

Licenses and Credentials:
ASCP Certified Medical Technologist MLT, MT, MLA, Histologists required
Experience:
Lab experience 5-7 years required
Demonstrated leadership experience in hospital-based CLIA laboratory 8 years required
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Detailed knowledge of all regulatory requirements, including CAP, Joint Commission, and CLIA.
- Expert knowledge of laboratory health and safety protocols.
- Strong innovative attributes to remain on top of technology shifts.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Read, write and comprehend English sufficiently to communicate with patients, laboratory and others.
- Strong knowledge of personnel and employment practices.
- Ability to effectively manage staffing levels and workloads.
- Ability to effectively interview and train new employees.
