Job Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation Operations Manager, the incumbent will provide technical support for all simulation operations, including, but not limited to, course preparation, maintenance, and repair of computerized mannequins (software and hardware), task trainers, and related multimedia peripherals. This opportunity is perfect for recent graduates, especially pre-med students, seeking valuable experience as medical professionals. As Simulation Specialists, you will be able to work closely with senior-level clinical and managerial faculty and staff, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in simulation.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree preferred in a relevant field, such as biology, chemistry, pre-med, neuroscience, exercise physiology, etc.
-
One year previous experience preferred as a healthcare professional (e.g., EMT, medical technician, scribe, research assistant, simulation operations specialist).

CHSOS certification preferred
-
Ability to lift/carry/maneuver equipment weighing roughly 20 - 35 lbs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
-
Utilize and operate different simulation technologies, including anatomic models, task trainers, high-fidelity computer-based simulators, and virtual reality-based simulators.
-
Perform opening and closing procedures of the Center and ensuring all rooms are locked at the end of each shift.
-
Serve as simulation operator controlling manual and pre-programmed scenarios with course directors or designated faculty, including physicians, APRNs, RNS, and senior hospital clinical leadership, for onsite, in situ and hospital mock code simulation-based programs.

Set up courses as specified within the curriculum and perform breakdown and equipment checks for the course.

Advise course directors and allied faculty members in designing the operational component of a simulation-based educational curriculum.

Develop simulation-based trainers and anatomical models and utilize 3D Printing software.

Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment related to all hospital professions. This includes completing monthly inventory checklists, obtaining quotes, and making purchasing recommendations to the Operations Manager based on the simulation center's needs.

Provide recommendations for improving operational systems, new equipment needs, and improvement in the quality of the curriculum development process.

Participate in Curriculum in Development Committee, Simulation Review Committee, and Operations Team meetings.

Participate in the ongoing maintenance program for all simulation-based equipment, medical devices, capital equipment, and the Center as a whole, including cleaning, testing, troubleshooting, repairing replacement parts, and ensuring all equipment is in good working order.

Liaise with equipment manufacturers and clinicians regarding equipment and software upgrades, updates, and beta testing initiatives.

Maintains current knowledge of simulation equipment inventory catalogs and operational manuals.

Assist with the development of and execution of simulation-based research projects.

Assist with the development of and execution of external business when necessary, including leading simulation programs within our partnering entities in MGB.

Participate in STRATUS tours to all visitors and externally based programs.
-
Participate in technical training as necessary.
-
Participate in the BWH Observation Program for US-Guided CVC Placement as part of the BWH Quality and Safety Improvement Program to reduce central line infections.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required
-
Self-motivated, requiring little to no supervision, to work effectively in a team environment.
-
Knowledge of patient simulation technologies and applications, including hardware and software, preferred.
-
Knowledge of educational program design and development related to operations, including but not limited to developing schedules, scenario design, and equipment needs.
-
Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording, streaming, duplication, mixing, and editing.
-
Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently.
-
Capacity to assess, troubleshoot, and fix equipment failures promptly.
-
Excellent computer skills, including Outlook email, Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom teleconferencing platform, and site-specific software. Knowledge of Mac O/S is beneficial.

Exceptional interpersonal skills necessary to engage successfully and courteously with diverse staff, students, visitors, vendors, etc.

Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues.
